Baby routine

Hi everyone my baby is 4 months old and I am trying my best to get her into a napping routine during the day time as she already has a night time routine (with me) , but when she stays the night with my mother in law she does not help out at all when it comes to my child's routine. I try and ask her to put her down during the day, times for her naps and her bedtime but my mother in law has told me that my daughter does not need to be in any routine when my daughter does come home from staying with her she comes back exhausted and really fussy...

HELP MEEE!

How often does she stay there? I’d be tempted to say that if she doesn’t follow your wishes then your DD won’t stay there as I’d be worried this would just be the start of her ignoring what you’ve asked of her

Agree, is there a reason she's staying at your MIL's? What does your DH say about her coming home cranky and what does he do to help?

Does she need to stay there?

I wouldn’t be sending such a young baby to regularly sleep at someone else’s house.

Once a week she stays over I'm a first time mum she is my first child the reason she stays over is so I can get a little time to myself and my husband doesn't really say much about it

Just keep her home. Put dh on overnight duty Saturday nights and take the night for yourself.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/02/2020 19:49

Yeah just keep her home, she is very young to be staying out weekly and that will mess with her routine.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/02/2020 19:50

So I think you need to decide which is more important, keeping her routine or having a night free.

It sounds as though your MIL has no respect for your wishes and isn't going to change what she's doing.

sewinginscotland · 22/02/2020 20:20

I agree with @jiltedjohnsjulie, she's not going to change unfortunately. Can you perhaps leave her with your MIL at times she's not due to nap so you get some time to yourself but DD's routine isn't disturbed?

It's great that you've got that support but you need to find out something that works for all of you.

Teacaketotty · 22/02/2020 20:24

Naturally she is going to be out of routine once a week because she is away from home.

I am totally not shaming you in any way but personally I don’t understand why you would need a night to yourself once a week. Once a month or something maybe but she would be far too young for me to leave that often.

Such a little baby should not be away from you overnight. She needs her mum nearby. Dad can do a Saturday night each week to give you some sleep. 4 month olds have their own little routine, I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage x
