Tooth Fairy

So, we are about to lose our 1st tooth.

DH and I are currently in heated debate as to how much the fairy should bring.

DH says £2 for big ones and £1 for little ones. I say for her 1st tooth (as she will never have one again) a £5 note and then subsequent teeth £1.

We can't agree so I said "let's let MN decided"

Off you go.........!

maybe me and dh were mean, but we gave (and will give our youngest) 50p for small ones, £1 for large ones. we tried to give the special 50ps if we had them and the dc liked to look at the pictures on the coins

Trahira · 21/02/2020 16:55

£1 per tooth here - nothing different for big/first teeth

dementedpixie · 21/02/2020 16:56

We did £2 for 1st tooth, £1 for the rest

In our area most kids get a coin + a toy, so dd tends to get a pound coin and a little hatchimal or shopkins type thing.

bellinisurge · 21/02/2020 17:00

I got sixpence per tooth. But I am very old. Grin
Dd got £5 for the first one. She was a late starter and at 12, still has a few baby teeth. It was pure bribery because she was freaked out. After that £1 each.

Gemm83 · 21/02/2020 17:35

@bellinisurge

I used to get 20p per tooth! I remember having to have 2 out when I was about 7ish, the dentist gave them to my dad and I got £1 because they were huge!

That's inflation for you!! 😂

£1 per tooth here. If she gets more for her first one that's what she'll expect for the others, and it'll cause all sorts of upset when she gets less next time.

PrincessWatermelon · 21/02/2020 17:54

£1 for each tooth here.

I used to get 5p, and I'm not that old!!

fishonabicycle · 21/02/2020 18:16

Pound a tooth! Once I forgot and had to write a teeny weeny fairy note to go with the pound the following night ... (Explaining that it had been a very busy night and the fairy's tooth bag was full!).

inwood · 21/02/2020 18:17

Mine get £2 a tooth. No idea why we started that.

I've got twins and for some reason when the tooth fairy visits one she visits the other too and I can't see how we stop it now so it's costing £4 a tooth each!!

£1 for the first tooth and 50p for the rest. I've got 3 dc though so I've got to keep the costs down!

Spied · 21/02/2020 18:44

£1 for each tooth (regardless of size).

Our tooth fairy is really stupid kind and also leaves 50p for the sibling who didn't even loose a tooth.
( Only a year between DC and it seemed a good idea at the time)Hmm

concernedforthefuture · 21/02/2020 18:55

£1 a tooth here (although DS got £2 when he accidentally swallowed his tooth as he was so upset when he thought he wasn't going to get anything!).

TwoZeroTwoZero · 21/02/2020 19:01

£1 per tooth regardless of size. They get a tiny letter in a tiny envelope too which is a tradition I wish we hadn't started.

elp30 · 21/02/2020 19:11

My granddaughter lives with me and she lost her first tooth a few months ago so I gave her $5. She's lost three since and they're worth $1 each.

So, I agree with you OP

Patchworkpatty · 21/02/2020 19:20

£1 per tooth

Aria20 · 21/02/2020 19:21

Mine got £5 for first tooth and £1 after that.... however they don't believe now so they get 0 Grin

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 22/02/2020 08:28

My DD is about to lose her first tooth. I just assumed that £1 per tooth would be the norm, as it was when I was a kid, so hadn't occurred to me to do anything different.
I had no idea that other children get toys, £5 notes etc. I feel a bit mean now.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/02/2020 08:34

The subtleties of different teeth rates will be lost on a child. A nice round £1 is sufficient for all teeth.

Bluebells45 · 22/02/2020 13:40

Me and my sister had a hilarious conversation about teeth last week. I have a 9 week old and my sister has a 6 nearly 7 year old. We discovered hes the only one in in class to not have lost a tooth yet. I asked him if he was going to cry when it happens 😂 he’s adamant his not going to but guaranteed he will. This sparked a million questions. What does the tooth fairy do with the teeth. I said she grinds them up into a powder and that’s what the baby drinks, that’s why your teeth are called milk teeth, if she didn’t drink it she won’t grow her own teeth. I actually thought it was good kids theory 😂. But yes in the end my sister decided on £1 per tooth when the time comes. I suppose for the first tooth in particularly £1 is more like £10 as every family member will give x
