Blood in poo!

MumsyMum31 · 20/02/2020 18:01

My 12 week old had her second set of vaccinations this morning. She has been sleeping almost all day, has fed as normal. She had a bowel movement a while ago, she goes every day or every other day. Normal. I noticed a substantial amount of red blood in her poo, like blobs and mixed through. She has no temperature and isnt upset just sleeping. Could it be from the rotavirus vaccination or should I be concerned??

I doubt it's from the vaccination this morning. I would contact 111 for advice.

A&E immediately. Call 999 if you can’t get her there yourself.

Thanks everyone, at hospital they don’t seem too concerned!! Waiting for paeds to decide if they want to see her!

If they aren't concerned then that's great, but you did the right thing taking her in.

Hope your little one is ok OP. I imagine she’s just got a fissure but it’s always scary when your child has something wrong that’s unexplained! Fingers crossed all is well Flowers

Could be interssuception so do mention that. Rotorvirus does irritate the gut but could also be allergies too. Hospital is the best place

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 20/02/2020 21:08

Are you breast feeding? Cracked nipples can cause this.

MumsyMum31 · 20/02/2020 21:40

No she’s formula fed, not anal fissures either, still waiting for paeds to decide if they want to see her!

This happened to my friends son and it turned out he had a milk allergy. It turned out not to be too serious (as blood in poo looks very scary) as was easily controlled with a medicine. I hope you get the answers you need.

Fluffballs · 21/02/2020 05:21

Hope she's okay op, let us know what happens.

Told me to observe at home and take a sample to my GP surgery. Hoping it’s nothing serious she isn’t crying and seems in good spirits!

My baby had this @ same age I think, I was crying I was so worried it was bright red blood and mucus I took him to a&e they checked him over and thought it was a tummy bug and irritated bowels as he had been having diarhea. I was worried about the telescopic bowel but it wasn’t that. He had the blood again a couple of months later but from the opposite being constipated and tearing his bum! So worrying Isn’t it .Hope it’s nothing serious for you.

My DD had exactly the same thing after her second rotavirus vaccine. It lasted for almost 2 weeks, lots of green, runny poo with blobs of blood on a few occasions. I went to the doctor who said it was probably injury/hemorrhoids just inside the rectum due to all the pooing. She was fine otherwise though and still cheerful with a normal appetite. Just be sure to wash your hands when changing diapers as there’s a slim chance of infection due to live viruses in the vaccine. I also had an upset stomach for the first week DD kept pooing, though that could also have been from stress.

MumsyMum31 · 22/02/2020 07:44

That’s reassuring! Although dd was much more unsettled yesterday seems to have pain in her tummy but it seems to be after she feeds, but she had colic and has reflux so it could be that, we haven’t had a poo since Thursday evening but that’s normal as she might go every other day. I’m just waiting patiently on that!
