Hello everyone! , just wanting abit of insight to if anyone has been through this too! , so my daughters 2 , 3 in April since she was 1 and started eating finger foods etc she never really ate! Little she would NOT eat jar foods , I made up my own foods and blended (healthy) still wouldn’t eat she literally used to eat like 1 chop and quarter of a chicken nugget without the skin , and she still wouldn’t eat all of it! She’s now at this age and STILL doesn’t eat and if she does she will only eat if I feed her and I try my best to get her to eat alone because she used to eat on her own at nursery and home but she has had bowel problems from birth she was milk intolerant and doesnt poo for 4-5 days and when she does it’s massive and like a rock! Since couple month ago we have finally after nearly 3 years seen a paediatrician and her bowls are better they said once her bowels get better so will her appitite, it’s been months now and to be honest it’s getting miles worse! I have tried the dietician and let her no I would like to speak about maybe trying her on build up drinks as a food supplement as The doctors have said she’s not put weight on in a year , she’s the same weight as her 16 month old brother , he eats 2 plates of food on a daily basis! I have tried everything has anyone got any ideas? I’ve done the “ fun food” cutting foods into fun shapes , I had her help me make it etc. Soon as she seems food been put out she runs away and says instantly she doesn’t want it it’s discusting even her most favourite food she used to love! Tonight she’s ate 3 small chicken nuggets for her tea and nothing else that was on the plate.. I’m so worried now!

she will only eat if I feed her

Not uncommon for toddlers to regress when a younger sibling takes attention away from them. I'd just go with it and feed her, she'll grow out of it and honestly it's not a big deal. Better she develops a healthy diet with you helping her eat than just not eating. Three is still little, it will come.

In terms of constipation, I'd put money on the main cause being lack of fluids. Another really common thing in toddlers. Try sugar free squash is water isn't being drunk frequently. Keep a brakes full all the time (in fact I keep several dotted around the house) and encourage her to drink all the time.

Oh no she literally drinks litres of water a day and I mean she’s such a thirsty child she will not stop drinking all day! I’m glad about that because she only drinks water I’m not a juice fan she’s always been like that since been born she absolutely screams when it’s time for a poo! Xx

What have the dr said about her poo? Is she on medication? Have you looked at the Eric website? Take her to the toilet 30 mins after each meal and get her to sit for 5 min?

Hiya yes she is currently been on movicol all her life , and she is now on simulats to help her go , unfortunately they are very hard and she is only little and they ren to be 10x bigger than what she can handle xx

If her stools are still hard it sounds like her Movicol dose needs increasing. Have they shown you the Bristol stool chart? Hopefully the stimulant will improve things for her. It’s awful when they’re in pain and there is very little you can do to help.

Bluebell121 · 19/02/2020 19:46

Yes I am doing everything with the stool chart this has been ongoing for 2 years now , and still no appetite so there looking into supplements to help her , movicol is highest she can go which is 4 sachets a day , I did 5 ok there request one time and honestly poor baby couldn’t go out the house due to chronic diareah x

The guidelines for movical is that the dosage does not normal need to be more than 4 sachets. She can definitely have more. When is the last time you discussed her dosage and who was it with?

Selfsettling3 · 19/02/2020 20:03

Is she impacted?

Bluebell121 · 19/02/2020 20:20

Hey I literally discussed it today with her pt and doctor , I'm not sure what you mean by impacted him

I’m surprised she is still having hard stools on 4 sachets but had diarrhoea on 5. The ERIC website is really useful if you haven’t already had a look. They are a children’s bladder and bowel charity.
Impacted means having lots of hard stools stuck inside and loose stools are making their way round the sides. In this situation children have increasing doses of Movicol over a week or so to clear them out completely, it’s called a disimpaction regime.

Have you tried fruit smoothies? You could even add things like spinach and kale to make them healthier.
