Hi all,

I'm really struggling at the moment and wondered if you could all help or share some of your experiences.

I have an 8 month old (first child) who is very active, he wants to be on the move/playing all the time. He can never sit there whilst I read a book before bed time, or sit and watch In The Night Garden etc; but he recently won't even sit and eat his food. When we first started weaning he was taking it quite well, however recently he has 2-3 spoonfuls and refuses to eat the rest. He gags at pretty much everything and is also not drinking all of his milk. He has 5-6oz every 4 hours.
I'm struggling as I don't know what else I can do.

For us it was just getting out of the house as much as possible.
Wake up, do general morning stuff, nap.
Out of the house for the rest of the morning - usually a baby class, nap.
Out for a walk, nap in the car.
Loooooong bath and bed routine, bed.

Don't expect focus of more than about 2mins at a time! Mine loved a book, others don't.

At 8 months, don't expect too much eating - food is just for discovery at this age.

With milk, as long as you're getting enough wet nappies, try not to worry. He could be a bit under the weather, or teething etc. Sometimes it's famine or feast!

But getting out of the house and tiring them out has always been my only way to survive!

I've got one of those - he was never still! It was exhausting but I really enjoyed it - he was, and still is, really curious and into real world stuff. I don't think DS watched the TV until he was 16/17 months (and not for a lack of trying), books were also ignored until a similar age.

We got out and about lots - different classes & groups, go for buggy walks lots so he could look around, he even used to love going to the supermarket. He's two now and still at 1000mph but plays well by himself, loves books, will watch TV happily for half an hour or so.

On the food front, he wouldn't let a spoon near him so we did BLW which was great so maybe give him more things so he can feed himself? They a have phases with eating, my DS goes from eating everything to surviving on fruit and thin air.
