Cloth nappy question - help!!

BlueMoon1103 · 15/02/2020 09:15

I’ve recently made the switch to cloth nappies, what insert do I need to buy to make them last the night? My son sleeps 10-12 hours a night and they leak Blush currently using disposables at night to stop this but don’t really want to.

Bamboo is meant to be really absorbent. I'm probably not the best person to give advice as I haven't used cloth yet as my baby isn't born yet. Cloth nappies UK and clean cloth nappies are some good Facebook groups I was recommended on here. They will be able to tell you whatever you need to know.

The nappy lady sells inserts. I think I may have used the bamboo ones.

A tots bots bamboozle stretch with a motherease wrap over the top is what you need. Can then add boosters to the nappy (hemp good for heavy wetters!)

What nappies are you using? How old is your baby?

sewinginscotland · 15/02/2020 20:38

Day nappies tend to not work at night, however much you boost them. As PP has said, what are you using?

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 16/02/2020 10:22

If you want to go all night, you need something made from a more absorbant fabric - Bamboo or hemp.
Day nappies, so e.g. your pocket nappies, all in one's etc won't cope all night.

I swear by little lamb Bamboo 2 parters with 2 Bamboo boosters (one in the nappy, one between the nappy and wrap) which does my 2 year old all night.
Other people like tots bots bamboozles that are the same thing as a little lamb, see pp"s recommendation above.
There's also a brand called lollipop that do their own version of a little lamb Bamboo - I've no experience of using these though or any idea of how they compare price wise.

Different things work for different people! No reason you can't use a well boosted pocket nappy at night, but you may need to try charcoal, hemp or a couple of bamboo boosters. I find bamboo and hemp boosters by baba+boo absolutely the best and their customer service is brilliant. You can email them and ask any questions 🙂

A Motherease wrap and anything except microfiber, IME.
See what bundles you can find on Facebook. Or just cannibalise old towels.

I use Bamboozles with a Motherease booster and a Blueberry Capri wrap, I get 12hrs easily with frequent bight feeds.

I love my Baba and Boo pocket nappies but no good at night for us, that might change when night weaned though.

It is a case of trial and error but you need to tell us what you are using first!

onedream · 16/02/2020 15:52

What nappies you using during the day? The regular pocket or aio nappies are good for day time but for night a 2-parter is best in my opinion, this would mean a fitted nappy plus wrap..we use bamboo sandys plus wrap (airflow, thirsties wrap or petit lulu pull up wrap), similar would be the bamboozles or little lambs plus whichever wrap you choose. This will be ok for the night we have no problem with this combo for 12 hours and never had a leak..

corduroyal · 16/02/2020 16:52

We tried several combos and everything leaked.

I think you'd need to change at least once a night or else use disposables - it's only one.

Reusables can be so bulky that I think it's uncomfortable for sleeping and raises the hips up. So we use disposables at night and reusables by day (most of the time).

You can buy inserts at Aldi

namechangin · 16/02/2020 20:11

Woohoo well done on making the switch!!
During the day time I use one charcoal/bamboo mix insert and one cotton insert inside of a pocket nappy. I do also have some cotton Terry ones that I have wraps to go over.
For night time I use a little lambs bamboo nappy and a cotton prefold folded into three as a boost because I have a heavy wetter and a good sleeper who I don't want to wake for changes and then a wool cover or a petit lulu cover.
I'll attach pictures to show you what I mean. First is day nappy second is night nappies, the yellow is the wool cover, the colourful one is a petit lulu, and the rectangle is my bambino mio prefold

We use the Tickle Tots night boosters and they have worked really well for us. You can fold it in half so you can get 8 layers of extra absorbency, but still really slim and it doesn't make the nappy super bulky
