Teach me for not reading the packet! My 3 month old has started teething, bought some bonjela teething gel and put it on. Then glanced at the packet and it said babies over 6 months! Was only in the small print I'm so cross with myself. Do I need to go to GP/ call 111? Help!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm just feeding there are articles on Blaine saying there's an active ingredient in bonjela that causes retinal failure I'm starting to panic can anyone help? If I phone 111 I'm sure they'll send us to a and e as a precaution I want to avoid that if it's nothing to worry about.

Call your pharmacist

Thank you I wouldn't of thought to do that! They had a good look at the ingredients and it looks like there's nothing harmful in there so don't need to worry, says from 6 months cos that's when most babies start teething (not the case with my 2!) I'll just keep an eye on him to check he doesn't have a reaction and go back to the teething granules for now.

From reading the NHS article it sounds like its the prolonged use that is the risk, not a one off.

I’ve given the gel to my child, should I be worried?
No. This is currently only a theoretical risk and the chances of developing Reyes syndrome falls as soon as the viral infection or the aspirin-containing product is stopped.

you need to speak to a pharmacy, gp or 111. Don't rely on strangers on the internet's advice when it concerns your babies health. Hopefully there is nothing to worry about

cross post. Glad all is ok
