I am a first time mum-to-be and have absolutely no idea what changing bag to buy. What are you using and would you recommend?

Ju ju be right back. Better than the pacapod I started with. Enough space for a preschooler and toddler.

Honestly, im using a free backpack my DH got from his work.
I did have a proper changing bag the first time around but found this much better

One of decathlon's own brand backpacks with lots of pockets and zips!

I just bought a pricey backpack I liked and still using it 21 years later for holidays

I’m using Q play changing bag I love it! Has lots of room and small handy compartments. I got it in smyths here in Ireland not sure if it’s available in UK

I've got a skip hop Greenwich backpack which is great with loads of room inside, I started off with a shoulder changing bag but found it a juggle going out on my own with it especially if I was bringing home shopping too, but a backpack is so much easier, leaves arms completely free to carry baby Smile

I was gifted a fairly expensive bag (it was by a company called BaBaBing if I'm remembering right). It was fine but I'm now using the backpack I got free from work to carry my laptop.

Much better.

I got a little backpack from tk maxx because I liked it and it was small. I can squeeze everything I need in, and it fits below the Pram. To start out with we had a proper changing bag which I hated with a vengeance! It was too bulky, but strangely you could hardly fit anything in it! All padded I think.

DappledThings · 10/02/2020 12:55

Ordinary back pack. I had a "proper" changing bag. I gave it away for free when DS was about months old. Backpack is way more convenient.

I have a gigil backpack, it's doing the job so far and is plenty big enough with enough pockets and compartments - I don't think the quality matches the price though unfortunately and I've seen a lot of brands with identical bags so I've no doubt they all come from the same factory in china!

Avoid anything marketed as a changing bag as that puts the price up significantly. A rucksack from a sports or outdoor shop will be perfect and you can add a changing mat and plenty of space for everything else.

peachgreen · 10/02/2020 13:06

Honestly, just get a rucksack.

I bought a Marc Jacobs bag without realising it was a changing bag!

I have a lovely black leather babymel one that is tote bag style. Bags are my thing so it was important to me that I had something I enjoyed using

Her0utdoors · 10/02/2020 13:13

A ruck sack from tkmax that I had anyway for my first, when that disintegrated after a decade I went back there a bought another.
I have a satchel type hand bag and mostly use that though.

PrayingandHoping · 10/02/2020 13:15

Had a backpack and within a couple of weeks it had driven me nuts. Anything u ever want is always at the bottom and u have to dig around and pull stuff out!

Bought a Mountain Buggy duffel bag. Much better and easier to find things.

Orangedaisy · 10/02/2020 13:17

Mumsnet always says to just get a normal backpack. I generally agree but think about your lifestyle and the type of pushchair/pram you’re using. I found a proper changing bag really handy as it attaches easily to the pram and pushchair handles leaving me hands free without having to carry things or have a bag bump me in the knees. Both my pram (a handme down cameleon) and pushchair had baskets under which were hard to access.
