Formula not dissolving

Hi we are using aptamil formula and the correct number of scoops to water but seem to have a lot of clumps left at the bottom? I would estimate that in 4oz with 4 scoops we have about a scoop left at the end of the bottle.

We are shaking plenty and have been told by the health visitor to mix directly with boiled water.

Is this normal? Any ideas where we are going wrong if not?

Do you not leave the water to cool for up to 30 minutes? That's what the tub normally tells you to do

Sally872 · 08/02/2020 18:55

Not normal and using boiled water is what we did.
How do you mix? We shook the bottle thoroughly and that worked. I cant think of anything you are doing wrong.

Sally872 · 08/02/2020 18:56

My understanding is leaving it for 30 mins is to prevent burning yourself or baby so as long as you remove that risk in other ways it is fine.

And are you adding formula to the water rather than the other way round?

Spam88 · 08/02/2020 18:58

I think leaving it for 30 minutes is so it's not so hot it destroys the nutrients isn't it?

Are you putting the water or powder in first?

Cherry85 · 08/02/2020 19:56

I had read that too about waiting 30 mins but health visitor said use boiling water?

What does the tub say? Leaving it no more than 30 minutes ensures its still over 70⁰C to kill bacteria in the powder

The 30 minutes is the longest you should leave the water to cool for, so it doesn't get below 70°c otherwise it may not kill any bacteria

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-44780798 sounds like it's a known issue. Maybe switch to a different one

Wavingwhiledrowning · 08/02/2020 20:06

That never happened to us. Formula in the bottle, add formula (other way around to directions but otherwise the scoop gets all steamy and sticky), and give it a super good shake. Note if you do it this way round, you need an extra bottle to measure the water out otherwise you don't add enough.
If it's always lumpy I'd be tempted to try a new box if formula, or get a new kettle!

We found this with Aptamil. Changed to Hipp Organic and no longer have any issues with clumping (plus it is cheaper and, more importantly, seemed to ease DD's colicky pains).

I'd you Google about aptamil not dissolving lots of info comes up

sadatchristmas1 · 09/02/2020 08:01

Boiling water in bottle first add scoops of powder and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Cool in cold running water. Never had an issue with it not dissolving 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tootifroooooti · 09/02/2020 08:22

We used the same brand for a while. Boiled the water, waited 30 mins, poured it in, added the formula and shook the bottle for 30 seconds

Tootifroooooti · 09/02/2020 08:24

Ah posted too soon!

Apologies if you already do this. My OH wasn’t shaking them for long enough

CinnnemonBeauty · 09/02/2020 08:27

Oh get a perfect prep OP!
