Clothe recommendation for big girl..

DD2 is 16 weeks, 18lb 13oz (as of this afternoon) and has enormous thighs .

She grew out of bimbles at 7 weeks so we bought a wee mixture of different types, (MEOS, Bumble, Fuzzi Bunz, Slinki Minki and Tots Size2 - used Motherease wraps with the MEOS, Bumble and Tots) to help us decide which lot to buy next. But she has grown out of these too. Plus they were all leaving real angry welts on her legs . Main problems appear to be the aforementioned chunky thighs and a fair amount of length needed in the rise.

Any recomendations?
Thanks.

what wraps are u using ME wise? poppers or velcro? i find the poppers better to adjust round my dd chunky thighs.

Gomez · 01/10/2004 22:50

Got them both Misdee and actually prefer the aplix version. It is just a real pain as I am/was getting on very well with the whole reuseable thing but we have already spend an absolute fortune and she is barely 4 months old.

Thanks.

would it be worth going up a wrap size? u'd need to evantually, and the long term cost is lower than disposables, just keep telling yourself that and then the initial outlay doesnt seem as bad.

eeek Gomez, no help on the cloth front as I've only ever used meos and tots size 1 and 2 but she is a big girl, isn't she? I bet she has gorgeous squidger thighs

misdee · 01/10/2004 22:56

btw my dd was also this size at this age. she is now 2yrs old, and getting smaller thighs (can actually use the 3rd popper on her wraps now). she has been in the largest size since 1yr old. but she is also very very tall.

Gomez · 01/10/2004 22:58

Hi Skara, delightful thighs! Shame that when you get to 33 they are not quite as cute - i.e. mine!

I am using a large wrap Misdee - do you think I would be able to get an XL tight enough at the waist? In fact do you get an XL??

I was thinking that if we hang on for a few weeks she will get proportioned a bit better - but that is a faint hope me thinks

how chunky is she at the waist? i think the wrpas we use are XL (35lb+) so would probably be really big for your dd.

is your dd showing any size of moving yet? dd2 lost some of her chunkiness when she started moving (was crawling early).

have a look on ebay to see if you can get an XL wrap cheap to try. we're still using ours and find them great so cant loan any out atm, tho wil lbe potty training soon, so may be able to spare one or 2 then.

Skara · 01/10/2004 23:07

Hi G, I think she'll re-shape in a few weeks as you say; my no2 did (he was a similar weight/age). I was a bit of a fickle and un-dedicated clothie so just used disps for a while till he slimmed down again. In fact I'm a useless cloth user at the mo, am using disps exclusively while 20 size 1 velcro tots sit unused in the nappy basket

Gomez · 01/10/2004 23:07

Thanks again Misdee - she is not that big around the waist I don't think. Like your girl she is quite tall too so doesn't actually appear that huge. Thanks for the advise. And good luck with the potty training.

Naughty Skara!

TBH we have been pretty poor to recently as I don't have that many that fit so have been using those at night and Nature Boy & Girl during the day. BUT have collected said disposables and taken to a wormery at the local allotments to be eaten...... So not too bad on the environmental frony, just crap on the expense front.

Skara · 01/10/2004 23:13

worms eat despicables? I had no idea!
I have been utterly useless this time round. It costs a fortune too, doesn't it? Doesn't stop me though, and I feel like a smoker - keep saying 'just one more pack then I'll give up'

Gomez · 01/10/2004 23:16

Worms love them apparently. DH thought we should get our own we collection.

I think not.

have you thought about using wonderoos?? they are a one size fits all napopy- that go from newborn to toddler so im sure they would fit on teh thigh. the cheapest ones ive found are at ragbags.co.uk- about £10 if i remember rightly and thats one nappy to last right through - bliss.

Gomez · 03/10/2004 14:10

Oh Kaylis just had a look (same price on Babykind BTW if you buy 3 or more) and defo. worth a try. Thanks.

I would think at the rate she's going the Lollipop Rainbow Stuffit would be good. They are actually cut much bigger than described - my dd is 23lb at 16m and is skinny - only just growing into her Large size.
A fun one to try and if you don't get on with it, they would go v fast on the 2nd hand forums as they are so new and generous, nobody has outgrown theirs yet!

Gomez · 13/10/2004 20:25

Update -

You ladies have come up trumps again - ordered both a Wonderoo and a Rainbow Suffit and both fit well (at the moment!!).

Cheers!

are the wonderoo AIO? they look great, and am tempted by their bonfire offer.
