Chicken pox!!!

My 3 year old started with a few spots yesterday and today he has a lot more of his body and back... on or two on his arms and legs and behind his ears. He also has some behind his ears. He's been pretty run down recently, he had tonsillitis 2 weeks ago, ear infection last week but he seems perfectly fine! He's not scratching and seems happy in himself. The spots have blisters on some of them... is it normal? I thought the scratching would be awful! Could his illness the last few weeks have been this building up?
Just wondered what people's chicken pox experiences were!

The not scratching seems to be normal, in my experience. Both of my boys have just recovered from it (eldest just went through his second and worst bout of it). My eldest didn't seem itchy at all and my youngest didnt scratch too much either.

I think your DC being run down previously is a connection (though I can't attest for the tonsillitis) as mine had a horrific cold previous to the spots.

I hope he feels better soon and it's not too bad for him.

My daughter barely scratched her pox .. during the day, totally minimal. Overnight a little bit more but less distractions I suppose! She was also not particularly poorly with it, she got very grumpy stuck at home!

Spots wise, we were super lucky. Probably 30 at most, only 3 on her face & then across her back, legs, top of head & arms.

I think there must be different strains. We got a pretty mild one clearly! Either that or her immune system did a really good job!

I recommend virasoothe for the spots & oat baths & calpol if they seem under the weather. No ibuprofen, that’s bad for pox.

Thank you for the replies!
I thought we might have got off lightly when I started this post but I was wrong! His spots aren't bothering him too much, apart from the ones in his bottom but he is really struggling with his fever. He's off most of his food, permanent temperature and just won't sleep! He is drinking which is good. Last night we were up 9-3 and I've just finish a 2 hour stint with him again. It's so sad and I feel so helpless! More spots have appeared since this morning, I just hope this is the worst of it as I hate seeing my little boy so miserable and I am already feeling serious cabin fever 🤦🏼‍♀️

My dd had chicken pox over Xmas - she didn't scratch much either, or have a temp and most of the spots where on her back and front.. would recommend Piriton at night if the scratching gets bad .. and head and shoulders in the bath before bed! I think someone on here recommended it for the itching and to help with helping.. no idea if it helped but worth doing & it makes a great bubble bath!

My 4 year old has it atm. Spots started Thursday and by yesterday she was absolutely covered, poor little mite. They are everywhere but mostly concentrated on her torso, ears, back of neck and scalp. Tons in her hair and some really big fluid filled blisters Shock

She’s not been well over the last two weeks (constant runny nose and grumpy), but the two days prior to the spots she had a temperature and was very clingy.

It’s miserable and she’s been complaining of itchiness and that some of the spots are hurting. Just been using calpol for the pain, and piriton syrup for the itching. Calamine didn’t work for my eldest

Hope your little one recovers soon!

Oh and oat baths have helped too!!

Bluerussian · 09/02/2020 22:34

Oh bless. When the blisters dry up and leave little scabs that rub off, that's when he's not infectious any more.

Chicken pox is one thing I clearly remember having, also my son having when he was five or so. Didn't last long for either of us.

Hope he's better soon.

No itching here but possibly because I preventively have piriton.
