16 month old penicillin nightmare help!

16 month old has tonsillitis and been given liquid penicillin t take 4 times a day for 10 days. Doctor said to take every 6 hours which means 7am 1pm 7pm and 1pm. She absolutely hates it and we have to basically hold her down and restrain her to try and get any in her mouth. Can just about bear it during the day but at night time it feels so cruel and she's so upset for an hour afterwards so we're all exhausted and I still have to work so I'm like the walking dead!

Going to ask pharmacist today if there's any way around this but has anyone else had to do this? Any tips to make it easier?

France do anti bios in suppository form apparently.

Try asking

Can you mix it in with yoghurt or smoothie? Doesn’t help overnight, sorry. I’ve heard of people syringing it in while the dc sleeps.

I wouldn’t wake mine up in the night. I would do with breakfast wirh lunch with dinner and half hour before bed x

The doctor and the instructions say 6 hours apart though- I will double check with the pharmacist if that's essential?

You do what you feel best but I would view that as guidelines and think of how important sleep is when your sick x

Also I would be thinking the middle of the night medicine episode might put the baby off having it at all - weigh it all up x

Even adults don't wake up in the night to take their antibiotics - as a rule.

Are you syringing it in? Might be easier. Also, you're not cruel - antibiotics are needed or you run the risk of more dangerous illness. Short term pain, even if it's upsetting right now.

Syringe, followed immediately by a drink of something else.

Well I've had mixed feedback today from the pharmacist and gp. Requested a call from the doctor as also had a different query about dd. Before I spoke to her I asked pharmacist how to take the medicine and she said waking hours is fine, so every 4 hours.
Then when I spoke to gp I asked her and she said no - it's ever 6 hours because antibiotics cant work effectively if you leave too long a gap overnight and they need to be taken at regular intervals to maintain the level in her bloodstream. It's frustrating getting different advice, but I think I will still give t to her at our bedtime rather than exactly 6 hours apart!

Is it the red one? My DD wouldn't have the red one and we ended up taking her to the hospital because she then started refusing fluids, they switched it to a different medicine that didn't taste as offensive and although we had to pin her down the first couple of times she was much better with it but day two. The red one was always going to be a no go with her, I tasted it and it was disgusting

Doctor should be able to prescribe a different one
