How to teach ‘scooping’ food

Hi! DS is 16 months and great at with a preloaded spoon or fork. However, he shows no great desire to ‘scoop’ his own food and completely resists our attempts to put our hand over his to guide him. He’ll sort of tap tap tap the spoon in his bowl but just ends up eating with his hands if we don’t load the spoon for him. Will he just eventually get it? Are there any styles of bowl or spoon that might make it easier for him to figure it out? Thanks!

I think they eventually get it. I don't remember mine being great with cutlery at 16mths; could put a loaded spoon in their mouth and good using their hands. At nearly 5 and 6, they're both efficient with cutlery and aspiring chopstick users!

Wouldn't stress too much!

Not til after 2 really with DS and he'll still use his hands at 2y7mo if we aren't watching like a hawk
