Travelling abroad with young babies

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has any experience of travelling abroad with a young Baby?

I’m due my 2nd child in July, but my DS (now 2)was born 6 weeks early so have been told to expect another early arrival.

My very good friend is getting married in Italy end of September. I was originally going to just go to the wedding for a long weekend and leave the kids with family, however I didn’t think I’d want to leave the baby so I booked a weeks family holiday instead.

People are now looking at me like I’m crazy contemplating travelling with a baby that young. Has anyone done it before and got any advice please?

Obviously if it’s premature and has any complications I won’t go, but otherwise I’d really like to!

Any advice/experiences would be great please! Thanks!

To be honest, travelling with your baby will be a breeze compared to travelling with your toddler. We took DS abroad at 17 months and I was traumatised by it! 😆

Sorry just to add I’ve just seen another thread similar to this and I’m after advice from people that have actually done this!

Baby would be at least 8 weeks old so had jabs. I realise the holiday won’t be relaxing in the slightest, I’ll have DH with me and friends around too.

@Ginger1982 - Yeah I think baby will be easier! I’ve told my husband he can look after our toddler Grin and I’ll stay in the cool with the baby!

I went to France with a 2 year old and a 7 week old this christmas. We registered the birth as soon as we could to get the birth certificate needed for the passport. Youngest was on my lap for the flight, 2 year old had his own seat. Husband looked after him during the flight. We took 2 small umbrella pushchairs and kept both in them at the airport until the gate. We then carried them both off the plane until we collected the baggage. Plan lots for the 2 year old on the plane. We took small quiet toys for the plane. We met family so we had others to help entertain the 2 year old during the day. We had a great time!

I didn’t travel with a baby that young but did travel long haul with a 9 month old, an 11 hour flight. She was crawling and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I imagined.
Request a skycot so you have somewhere to put baby down. An 8 week old baby will be much easier to travel with than one the move baby.
I gave a dose of calpol Before take off Incase the pressure effected her ears. I also tried to give her a bottle as we took off and landed too but it didn’t really work.
If you breastfeed then you should be able to pop baby on the breast and comfort them during the flight. If you are formula feeding the staff will warm up baby milk if you so wish. I found the cabin crew extremely helpful during my flight
