Hi guys,

I had a section 10 days ago and our wee guy has had mucus since the start as a result but the last few nights we have noticed he gets very raspy.

Is this normal?

How long will it last?

Can I do anything?

I feel so helpless and he is so teeny.... doesnt help as a new mum i am totally clueless either 🤣🙈

Dont risk it with a newborn call 111

I would go straight to A&E if I had concerns about the breathing of a 10-day old and from what you seem to say, it’s getting worse.

I know everyone on here insists on barely ever using A&E but I’d have my newborn there in a second. Newborns are so fragile and can seem fine until suddenly they’re not. Please go.

As the above poster said call 111. Take no risks with a child under two as they can’t tell you what’s wrong.

Call 111, you would not be wasting anyone's time. trust your instincts

It should be clearing. Not getting worse.
Call 111 NOW.

Yes get him seen - my baby had bronchiolitis, escalated very quickly and she was only two weeks x

VapeVamp12 · 31/01/2020 09:50

Did you manage to speak to someone?

We had the same when my son was born it made me stay awake a lot because I was terrified of something happening. He was checked by midwife and we used some saline drops us his nose which really helped.

You can get baby breathing monitors if you're really worried and have a few risk factors in play (premature birth and such). However even for normal term healthy babies, bronchiolitis etc can escalate quickly just as a previous poster said - for the sake of a call to 111, best get proper medical advice here.
