Breast feeding- what do I need to buy?

I breast fed my DS until he was two, and I'm soon to be starting again with second DS due in March.

I made a real mess of things at the beginning with DS1, I had over supply issues and would use a manual pump before feeding him, which exacerbated the problem. It took months to settle down to a more normal supply of milk.

This time I would like to be more prepared. Does something excise to catch the let down from the other breast whilst feeding? And if I do decide to pump, what is a good, reasonably priced pump? I had the manual Tommee Tippee one last time, but it often hurt, or lost suction very quickly.

I have a £100 voucher for John Lewis I was hoping I could use.

Thank you!

I haven't used personally but my friend had over supply issues and couldn't use a pump either - she got a silicone thing that is bottle shaped and gently suctions on to the breast to catch any let down.

I can't remember what is called but it's similar to this

I used a Haakaa brand silicone pump for catching the let down. It worked really well so would definitely recommend.

Echoing Hakka pumps for let down. In terms of decent pump I found my Medela hand pump far more effective than the electric one (also Medela).

I used a medela electric pump and also passively Medela breastmilk collection shells.
Lots of washable bamboo breast pads. I often hand express a bit before feeding the baby because my let down was like a jet wash.

OMG sorry for the multiple pastes! Also found lansinoh nipple cream and breast pads to be the best

Hakka pump - that's the thing!! My friend swears by it, if it had been around when I had mine I would have had one as it looks so easy and useful too!

I found my v cushion and bamboo breast pads invaluable.

I found the haakaa pump brilliant for let down.

Lansinoh nipple cream was a godsend in the early days.... use from the very start rather than waiting until nipples feel sore.

Washable bamboo breast pads. I got a load from amazon pretty cheap - the wash & tumble dry really well.

Molke bras have been brilliant for me while feeding.

I just stuff a muslin in my bra whilst feeding. It absorbs the leaks while my baby boy feeds on the other one and is handy to have ready in case he brings the milk up.

Other than when I'm feeding I don't leak too much and a couple of reusable breastpads absorb the rest. I prefer reusable ones (I've got rid of the packaging but they have a heart logo) because they stay in the right place. Surprisingly stick on ones end up in the wrong place.
