Extra clubs for toddler

Just wondering how many clubs/activities do your 3 year olds do? I wonder if we are over scheduling his weekends.

Right now on Saturdays he does chinese class in the morning and swimming in the evening. Sunday's are tennis class in the morning. He seems to really enjoy the classes so that's ok at least.

He goes to nursery full time during the week so I wonder if it's better to give him more chill out time..

Christ!! That's quite a lot for a three year old. When do u spend time just relaxing and playing in the house, going to the park etc? Would be different if he had down time in the week but as he's at nursery full time I think its a bit much to be having all the extra classes.

flyawayhey · 26/01/2020 17:18

It would be nice for you to spend some time playing with him with at home. Or visit family / friends ?

Chinese? Is one of you Chinese ? This seems a bit over keen at such a young age. I know some nursery's do have french and private schools introduce mandarin but I think it's very over the top at 3.

At preschool age DD did a swimming lesson, a football club and a dance lesson. The swimming was Saturday, the football Sunday in winter, and dance during the week. But... She only went to nursery 7.30-10.30. the rest of time was playing with friends, beach, pool, at home etc (we weren't in UK!). Much more would have been exhausting. We also had her older sister.

Far too much . Where is the family relaxation , playing at home .

Swimming at the weekend could be a fun family activity rather than a structured swimming lesson

My 3.5 year old does pre-school 8:30-3 each day and then Saturday school 10-1:00 for his second language. That feels like the very max he can cope with. We really chill out and potter the rest of the weekend to recover and he plays and relaxes at home after pre school each day too.

It sounds a lot really. My 2.5 yo does one full day nursery and one, sometimes two playgroups. The rest of the time is spent playing at home, visiting the park, playing in the woods or visiting soft play. At some point after his third birthday, I'd like to start taking him to a swimming lesson once per week.

My 3 year old did none , he was in nursery 7.30-5 five days a week and we used to spend the weekends at play gyms, swimming, seeing friends and fmaily or just relaxing.

Whatever we fancied

This is too much. Your child needs time to just play freely, even get bored.

Don't raise a child who can't entertain themselves. Even something as mundane as walking to the shops can be entertaining enough for a child this age.

He really loves tennis and swimming class though!

DS has Chinese grandparents so would like him to be able to communicate with his grandparents so unfortunately not one that we would like to cut out :( amazingly he has picked up some basic chinese without much practice at home

Does feel a bit like too many classes. We are cutting down nursery days to 4 dpw so might keep Fridays free from clubs so we still have a day to do nothing!

If he loves swimming and tennis then you can take him to play in the pool and further his teaching in between playing, and buy a set of rackets for the garden?

BackforGood · 26/01/2020 23:12

At 3, none of mine did ANY classes.
He is far too young.
If you speak Chinese at home and he speaks English at Nursery, he will grow up using both.

Mine did swimming lesson on a weekend and a gymnastics class in the week at 3. I felt that was enough

But I’m a sahm and he only did 3 mornings a week at nursery at that point. I think If he was in full time I’d only do the swimming
