What age do babies need entertaining (beyond cuddles and chit chat)

Sorry dumb question, but I have a 2.5 week old, currently passed out on me. I also have a 2.3yr old currently passed out in bed... Yay!

I'm having a baby brain moment trying to work out how to entertain my baby on the 3 days Dc1 is at nursery. I remember watching so much box arts with Dc1, but can't remember when it is that cuddles and chit chats are enough for little ones... I'm not quite mobile yet (c section) but am thinking ahead

You could get little rattle toys for when baby is sitting with you on the couch etc, then when baby is a little older you can get the little hanging gym thing for him and you'll be able to sit down on the floor with him. I think ds was 6/7 weeks when in got one

At 4 months I was unable to get anything done without distracting the baby....

My 9 week old has just started being happy lying on his baby gym thing this week but he's enjoyed watching tv (with his older sister) since 2/3 weeks while I got stuff done or peed!

Still no interest in toys as such, but he does bat and kick at the dangly things on the baby gym while he wiggles.

Mine's 10 weeks and is just starting to enjoy things other than cuddles and chat. He likes batting at things dangled in front of him on a string or ribbon, looking at twinkling fairy lights, looking in the mirror, and he loves having "conversations" where he makes a sound and you repeat it back to him. Any of those things will only keep his interest for 15 or 20 minutes though. Other things we do to pass the time are long walks in the pram or sling, and dancing to music.
