Too young to potty train??!!!

My daughter is 18 months now, and i had absolutely no intention of pt her till next summer! However.... she keeps climbing up to sit on the toilet then claps her hands when she is on it.... she also trys to get her nappy off as soon as it is wet/dirty etc even undressing her self to get to it. If i tell her to go and do something she does it straight away (wonder how long that will last?!!!). Am i mad or could she be ready to give it a go for a few days and see how we get on? I was pt at 19 months so she isnt far off that, although ds was 2 1/2 x

no harm in giving it a go. it'll take about three - four days before you know if she's getting the idea at all!

She might be too young for traditional toilet training but she is the right age for ECing...which is a very gentle approach to helping your child remain clean and dry.

i.e. Give her lots of nappy off time, pop her on the toilet when she asks and after naps and meals and see how she goes

Good luck

you can start to get her used to sitting on a potty or toilet as it helps in thre long run but go with your instinct and dd

you will know best wether you feel she is ready its been known to get clean at this age so go for it no harm in trying

My dd2 more or less trained herself by 18 m so if she wants to its worth having a go.

I nearly posted this myself ... have a boy age 17.5 m who is weeing on potty in morning about 30% of days and "telling" us (signing) when he's done a pooh and somethimes after a wee. I'm at the mo just going with potty time after breakfast and lots of praise for telling us. he can;t take own shorts up or down yet and his speach isn;t very understandable so I'm not going all out for potty training, just encourageing him when he does things that make life easier.
