Confused about demand feeding now 12 week old DS is demanding less

My DS's feeding pattern has changed in the past couple of weeks and I'm confused about keeping up with him! We struggled with slow weight gain for the first 6 weeks or so and he had a tongue tie so I got used to feeding him every 1.5/ 2 hours ish (he's EBF now, was having some top ups until 6 weeks). He then stretched feeds to 2.5/3 hours and now he's not particularly hungry after 3 hours - i.e. he's not actually demanding a feed. I'm just uncomfortable with feeding him only every 4 hours as I'm still nervous about weight gain (even though he is gaining fine now, he's still only 9th centile, so definitely small for his age)! But do I just feed him roughly every 3 hours even if he's not actually asking for food, or should I just be led by him and let him stretch out his feeds? He feeds once or twice in the night too (about every 4/5 hours) - if I let him feed less in the day could that mean he's hungrier at night?

Thanks!

My DD went through a phase where we fed her more than she demanded. If he were mine, and I'm no expert, I'd be tempted to offer every 3 hours in the day Smile

If you go 4 hours does he drink a bigger bottle? Look at oz over the 24hours instead of how long between feeds.

My DS wasn't ebf by 12 weeks but he quickly went into a 4 hour feeding schedule as opposed to the 3 hours more babies seem to do. He did have a large amount every 4 hours though. All babies are different.
