Slight grey tinge around baby’s top lip?

Like a five o’clock shadow.
Worse after feeding and when he’s windy.

I’m going to call the GP tomorrow and get an appointment but wondered if anyone else had experience of this?

He’s fine in himself, lots of dirty and wet nappies, feeding well, content.

Mine got a bit blue round the mouth when they had wind too.

Sounds like you are doing a grand job and from your photo that is an adorable bundle you have there. Congratulations Flowers

No idea about the blue tinge but your baby is absolutely gorgeous ❤️

It's wind. I'm sat looking at my 5 week old that has the same. Few burps and farts and it'll go

Genehuntssexyhands · 15/01/2020 19:38

Thank you :)

Congrats on your little one @3rdtimelucky

Mine got blue round the mouth when there was still wind inside. If it's happening after feeds, its wind

Irishsummer · 15/01/2020 20:32

Mine sometimes got a very white upper lip (between lip and nose) and even around the mouth when windy and would disappear when finally got it all up. My mum first pointed it out to me, it's a well known thing!

Genehuntssexyhands · 16/01/2020 00:38

Maybe I’m not getting it all up which is why it lingers a bit

Another vote for wind. My DD doesn't tend to bring up many burps immediately after a feed, I need to leave her 5-10mins then try again. I also went to baby massage and a technique from that really seems to help. It's running your fingers (with slight pressure) from right to left of baby along their belly, underneath their belly button. She's combo fed as well.

Genehuntssexyhands · 16/01/2020 04:31

Thanks I’ll try that

It could be wind but any case of cyanosis needs to be checked by a GP. It can be very serious if accompanied by fast heart rate / breathing problems.

Genehuntssexyhands · 16/01/2020 06:31

Oh that sounds really scary @GrumpyHoonMain I’ll make sure I phone the GP this morning to get an appointment :-/

Just an update - went to GP today. Saw two doctors who looked at him and listened to his heart - I showed them a video of his slightly heavier/faster breathing after feeding as well and they were happy that everything was normal. Doctor said the discolouration could be wind but could also be the engorgement of the venous plexus as he’s very fair and it happens after sucking.

However because we have a medical history linked with heart issues (previous pregnancy loss) they are going to liaise with the heart hospital we are under to ensure they have no concerns, and we are being referred to a paediatrician just for a further reassurance check. But all of that is non urgent.

Doctor was happy that his lips/gums/tongue/rest of his face never change colour (unless he’s screaming So much he goes red/purple!) and said that if he does go actual blue/goes floppy and non responsive (unless he’s in a milk coma) to call an ambulance. He also said if it stops being inconsistent and is there all the time/gets more pronounced over time, to take him back in.

Just thought I’d share all the info Incase anyone is looking for reassurance for the same thing and comes across this thread.

So if your baby has the same and you’re unsure I would recommend getting them checked out just to be safe.

Oh and thanks to everyone who posted to say they’ve experienced the same

Wind!!
You need to carry on with the winding for much longer. More will come upm

Genehuntssexyhands · 17/01/2020 03:55

Thanks @glamgiraffe DH and I have been trying some different techniques and actually getting a lot more up.
I actually thought I was going to be dealing with a poo explosion earlier but it turned out just to be a rather windy bottom 😁

I’ve found cycling his legs to be the most effective technique so far 😁

I was going to suggest that if you weren't succeeding, glad you've found a solution. Has the extra winding helped the blue-ness? Your baby must be much more comfortable now 😊
