Dd doesn't like pooing in potty/loo and saves it for naps/bed

Which is when I put a pullup or nappy on.

She's 2 1/2 and I know she is holding it in . Sometimes also get it in the knickers but never really in the potty.

I bribed her the other day and it worked but don't really want to do that too much (had to bribe her with wees and it worked but was hard to phase out).

She's dry all the time now. Just the poos we need to sort out.

Any ideas.

Could it be a privacy issue?

Have you tried leaving her on the potty for a few minutes with a book and turned your back to do something else?

I agree. My ds also holds his in. I find letting him sit on his pot (although he uses the big loo for wees) in front of cbeebies/fave dvd for 10 mins or more usually allows him to relax enough. I just leave him to it and tell him to call me when he's finished. Dd1 used to 'read' a book or magazine.

Another thought - how about putting a nappy in the potty? I read this somewhere so don't know if it works but might be worth a try!!

My son refused to do poos in the potty for ages and ages, a long time after he had been weeing in it. We tried everything-nappy in potty, star charts etc etc but to no avail. It finally happened by accident when a poo just slipped out(!)without him realising. After then it seemed like the issue he had with pooing in the potty had been broken and he was happy to poo in it from then on. Basically I think it happens when they are ready and there's no point in rushing them.

Sounds similar to DD1 - potty trained her at 2 1/2, dry after just a few days, even after naps. But it took weeks/months before she would reliably use the potty or loo for poos rather than keep them in, and we had lots of accidents. I tried bribery, sitting in front of TV with potty for up to 40 mins (I wasn't keen on this, and she soon caught on and said she needed a poo so she could watch TV - but was the only way if she'd been holding one in for a while...) endless reasoning, all to no avail. Finally she just seemed to get it and went from 2 or 3 accidents one day to none at all for a whole week.

My advice would be to take the pressure off a bit and let her poo in her nappy - at least it's a start that she's recognising she needs to go - while still giving her plenty of encouragement to use the toilet. 2 1/2 is still little, and I think it causes a lot of frustration and upset on all sides if she's just not quite ready yet. I'll certainly be in less of a hurry to potty train DD2 and will try to be more laidback about it.
