Baby gets fussy half way through bottle

Hi there! I have a few questions on baby bottle feeding So hopefully there'll be some words of wisdom out there!
My DS is 9 weeks corrected age, currently taking omeprazole for bad reflux and Nutramigen formula. Baby is offered a 5oz bottle every 3-4 hours however over 24hrs he will drink approx 2 bottles at 5oz and 3 bottles at 4oz. I'm worried that this isn't enough for a baby of his age? I'm seeing a lot of guzzlers out there having 6-7oz at a time. He'll normally drink 3oz no problem, then will break off to wind him and then the rest of the feed will be constant back arching, a few gulps and pulling off the bottle etc. It can be so time consuming to get him to drink a decent amount - so much so, that I'll work around feeding him before going out and rushing back before the next feed. Has anyone else had experiences with this?
The bottles we use are DR Browns FYI Smile
Thanks in advance x

Why do you need to feed at home. Can’t you do it out and about?

Sounds like wind or reflux. Are you using the correct teat size? Rather than focus on how much milk he has maybe focus on his weight - is he following his birth percentile?

Soubriquet · 10/01/2020 15:54

Can you get different teats for dr brown bottles?

My ds was on the same milk and medication and we had him on the variflow teats so he could drink to his hearts content.

But why do you have to do it at home?

Is his weight ok? It may be that he's just had enough.

Oh and don’t focus on what he is “supposed” to have.

All babies are different. They will drink until they have had enough. As long as he is gaining weight, don’t worry about making sure he has what the tin says he’s supposed to have

Peanutbutteryogurt · 10/01/2020 15:56

Does he have to have full feeds in one go? DD was a little and often baby. Can't he have 3oz then an hour or two later have another 3?

Thesearmsofmine · 10/01/2020 15:58

The back arching makes me think he might have some trapped wind.
Mi would ignore how much milk anyone else’s baby is having. If you dc is gaining weight well, is settled between feeds and is having plenty of wet and some dirty nappies then he is having what he needs.

Bipbipbipbip · 10/01/2020 16:53

You say corrected age, so how old is baby? He sounds like he's doing fab. They all drink different amounts so providing he seems well and you're getting wet & dirty nappies it's ok.

Thanks for all your responses!
Sorry - to clarify - I don't have to feed him at home, it's just that he's my first and it can take an age to get through a bottle / needs excessive winding and does a lot of wriggling and fussiness after the 3oz. It can get stressful at home, so can imagine what it's like in public!
Last time he was weighed was a few days before Xmas and he was following the curve for his corrected age. It's just the last few weeks that it's become noticeably worse on his intake so I will take him to get weighed on Monday and as long as he's still where he should be, I'll not worry!! @Peanutbutteryogurt that it probably my best bet - infact I did that today, 3oz and then another 2oz an hour later Smile thanks again x

Corrected age usually refers to a premature baby and is measured from due date rather than birthdate.

Nothing to add OP, agree with all the advice already given.
Focus on growth not how much he eats
Try little and often- premature babies often have small stomachs.
Keep up the breaks to burp
Check for any reflux issues
Try different nipples...some do cause extra air swallowing which then cause extra burping.

Clairep1988 · 10/01/2020 17:07

Oh and @Bipbipbipbip, he's 19 weeks actual. He was on nutriprem to help pile on the pounds but it wasn't agreeing with him and making him
Miserable. I suppose changing the milk from a high cal one to nutramigen has made me paranoid that we're giving him enough . I'll just keep an eye on his weight by taking him to the baby clinic and ignore what other babies are doing Smile
Plenty of wet and dirty nappies too x

Oh bless! Sounds like you've had a tough start! Keep going and don't worry about what any one else is doing.
