Baby has outgrown moses basket

What do you do for day time naps?

Originally my DD slept in a moses basket that we moved around the house to where we were. She hated the next to me to begin with, I think because of the space. When she got a bit bigger we used the moses basket in the living room and she slept in the next to me at night.

She has now outgrown her moses basket so what shall I do in the day? Let her nap in the next to me upstairs?

We have a monitor but I'm conscious that everyone is saying I need to be in the same room for at least 6 months. DD is 12 weeks. I will be spending an awful amount of time in my bedroom if this is the case!

I'm thinking about getting a proper cot and having that next to the bed for now and bringing the next to me down but is that bonkers?!

Can you put her to nap in the pram inside?

halfpasteleven · 10/01/2020 10:37

We use the pram during the day and next to me at night.

chooseausername · 10/01/2020 10:39

She's almost outgrown the lie flat part of her pram too. We have the next stage but she looks tiny in it so we haven't properly used it yet. If popping out we have just been using the car seat on the chassis.

She's just so long! She's almost outgrown her 3-6 baby grows as well as they are getting tight on her toes. She's not technically 3 months until next week!

Downstairs just use lie flat part on pram, blanket on floor, bouncer chair or a mix

Lazypuppy · 10/01/2020 11:17

I used to just put dd on a blanket on the sofa or on the floor/playmay.
She also had a swing seat that she used to go in for naps.
By 14/15 weeks i was putting her upstairs in her cot for naps

Lunafortheloveogod · 10/01/2020 11:20

Swing chair? Or a travel cot if you have space, we use ours as a play pen/day bed now.. saves me getting him to sleep downstairs to wake him up carrying him up or him spitting the dummy out and it taking me way too long to drag myself up the stairs. You can obviously fold the travel cot away when it’s not being used or if you want space back.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 10/01/2020 11:24

We put DD into her own room at 15 weeks because she'd outgrown her Moses basket. She started having all naps plus nighttime's in her cot.

There wasn't enough space in our bedroom for a cot.

chooseausername · 10/01/2020 11:26

Ah, thank you. I didn't think of the floor or sofa to be honest. A travel cot may be a good idea actually as I can use that when she goes to stay with my parents or when we go away etc in the future.

She has a swing chair but refuses to sleep in it for some reason...

Don't put her on the sofa

crustycrab · 10/01/2020 11:36

On the floor would be my suggestion.

ALadyofLetters · 10/01/2020 11:40

Do not put her on the sofa!

I used to put mine upstairs in their cots for naps but they didn’t outgrow their moses baskets till they were older- 4-5months.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/01/2020 11:45

Whatever you do, don’t let her sleep on the sofa.

We got a small crib after ours had outgrown their Moses basket.

bank100 · 10/01/2020 12:05

My DD was the same, very long baby and was out of her Moses in no time at all. From 3 months she either napped in her pram downstairs or upstairs in her cot, with video monitor.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/01/2020 12:07

We had a spare change mat, so put a blanket on it (wrapped underneath) then lay dd on it on the floor at my feet.

howabout · 10/01/2020 12:09

Pram or travel cot, but if your house is small enough she is fine in her own room. She can hear you and you can hear her.

howabout · 10/01/2020 12:11

Sorry just read that back - don't mean own room but rather where she normally sleeps at night.

Abouttimemum · 10/01/2020 13:36

Upstairs in his own cot or I second the travel cot if you prefer to still be next to them and downstairs.

chooseausername · 10/01/2020 15:26

Thank you all for the suggestions!

I would never leave her on the sofa unattended, just to be clear. I like the changing mat on the floor idea actually. I have 3 of them and 1 is hardly used!

To be honest, I think I may just start letting her nap upstairs now and keep going in to check on her and use the monitor.

She's growing up fast! Thanks again!

Baby monitor won’t help protect her from SIDS. Dead babies don’t make any noise.

chooseausername · 10/01/2020 16:52

Very true.

I've ordered a travel cot and will keep that in the living room for now. I can use that when away too so win win. Thank you everyone!

Travel cot would do the job, and can be used for holidays

orangejuicer · 12/01/2020 08:42

Go for travel cot - you can use it as a makeshift baby pen while baby is still young enough not to climb out of it.
