9 month old will not take solids

Hi everyone. So my 9mo will not take solids unless its yogurt and fruit puree. I started weaning at 6months and have really struggled with him. He just refused to open his mouth for solids. Has no interest in finger foods. He has been assessed by a multi disciplinary feeding team and say there is nothing physically wrong to stop him taking solids. They say he will take it when he wants to. He had really started to come on and taking quite a bit albeit being yogurt with fruit puree. I've tried to introduce veg or pureed dinners and yesterday he gagged and vomited up a smooth puree!! I'm going outta my head with worry we are never gonna progress. He has such a sensitive gag reflex! Anyone else been there and have any advice??

No adult ever starved or lived on milk. Try not to worry.

Your health visitor might be able to reassure you also.

My health visitor is off sick and trying to get one is a nightmare. Hes gagging on smooth purees and then vomiting. I thought my 1st was hard to wean but he is so much harder

I’m in charge of my 12 month old grandson who was never weaned we have only JUST started with solids and it’s challenging but formula is so well fortified these days it doesn’t do them any harm - he’ll get there eventually 🤷🏼‍♀️

I give mine a bowl of plain pasta shapes which he plays with, eats, shreds, spits out, and inbetween I shovel in mashed up pasta with sauce - the amount he’s spitting out is getting less and less

My son didn't eat anything (not even yoghurt or fruit) until he was 9.5months. I didn't do anything except putting finger food in front of him and one day he started sucking on it. I just made sure he joined in all family meals and saw us all enjoying our food and carried on with milk feeds (which I shifted to being after the meals). Eventually he ate. He was never underweight though so maybe make sure that he isn't dropping percentiles. He eats tonnes now and isn't fussy (unlike his older sister!)

My DD was like this for a while! I found Ella's Kitchen pouches were an absolute lifesaver- they do some fruit and veg mixed ones, like pear and pea. DD loved them and as time went on I could purée and add some more peas to strengthen the savoury flavour etc. Might be worth a try at least?

My dd when she was a baby would l my eat smooth yoghurt or fruit purée. Couldn’t spoon feed her any lumpy product.

However, she would take finger food.

What about leaving slices of apple or banana, something that he enjoys eating anyway, as a solid and letting him do it. Let him play with it if necessary.

Yes have been giving him the Ella's Kitchen pouches and been doing the same adding more veg to the mixed fruit and veg pouches. I guess he will eat when he wants to. Just very stressful
