Pushchair from newborns - do I need a carry cot?

I have very nearly decided on the Mountain Buggy Duet for my twins, due in about six weeks. It says the buggy is suitable from birth and has a "lay flat" mode. Carry cots are available to fit it, but the costs are really adding up with there being two of everything to buy and I know they wouldn't last long. We've already been given moses baskets for them to sleep in at home. So, if the buggy can "lay flat", does that mean the carry cots would be an optional extra or are they a necessity? I have also read about cocoons and liners which appear to be possible alternatives to keep them more secure and comfortable. I am a first time mum and feel very overwhelmed - been reading up on these things for most of the day and still confused Blush

No. I never used a carrycot. Too cumbersome. Lie flat buggy with cosytoes and rain over is absolutely adequate here in the uk .

Agree with Grandmi. Not necessary.

There are groups for people with twins, triplets, quadruplets with very busy re-sale activity. More specialised equipment is more expensive and not used for such along time.
With a newborn (or two newborns) you will be glad when they will fall asleep. If it will happen in a pushchair you might not want to disturb them and if you can't push pushchair inside the house you might want lift them in their carrycots.

I used the carrycotoads but my front door was up steps. So if I arrived home with a sleeping baby I could carry them up in it and they stayed sleeping longer.

carrycotoads = carrycot loads

Nope waste of money used ours about once. Wouldn't buy again if I knew what I knew now.

I never used a carry cot for my first, just lay the pushchair flat and used a blanket on him (it was summer, but in the winter I'd just use a footmuff). If you do feel like you need them later then you can buy them once the babies are here, but they last such a short time before they're outgrown.

I've bought a Mountain Buggy Cocoon from ebay for my impending baby (18 month gap so I've bought a MB Duet) it's lighter than a regular carrycot and straps straight into the buggy seats while they're lying flat, but the only reason I have it is to stop my toddler from poking the baby too much when they're in the pram together, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

With twins the other issue is is your car big enough for a twin pram, plus two carrycots. Many won't be.

I would just get the duet and some sheepskin liners to make them cosy. It will then fold in one piece, and last longer. If you look online many people use the duet from a newborn in main seat.

Im looking at the Mountain buggy swift, which is pretty much the same but single version. Think I will get carrycot, but only as I need to use for overnight sleeping the first few months when travelling and it will be used in the day downstairs at home.

'Lie flat' means up to 15 degrees. I used a cheap umbrella fold pushchair, cosy toes and rain cover from birth, and used it for all my kids (same pushchair)
When i finally got rid of it, it still had life in it!

Thanks so much everyone, this is super helpful! It sounds like it would suit us best to give the carry cots a miss, but will definitely invest in some sheepskins :)
