Does anyone know when babies can actually form an attachment to one? I swear my 7week old baby is expecting it at times! We use it for comfort as he has bad colic, but now I'm worried that we're both becoming reliant on it.
Our pre baby bubble we decided not to use one (that lasted 2 days!) but I'd like to get rid of it when the colic has subsided (praying it's at around 12 weeks that everyone keeps saying!) will I struggle to get rid of it? Anyone got any helpful tips or even if we leave it until 6months when we wean?
As it's hard to distract him (and me needing to get out and about, keep the home running and more importantly sleep) I'm finding it easier to 'plug the hole' than be able to sit and rub his tummy or comfort BF him 24/7....starting to feel like a bad mummy!

My sister was like this, had her dummy until she was two, nearly three. She used to have one in her mouth and one in each hand and if one went missing she’d go looking for it like a tiny addict. Then one day the dummy fairy’s came and took them all away. My mum had to get rid of them because her teeth were coming in and they were being pushed forward by the dummy addiction!!
I’d say go cold turkey now whilst you still can.

If you offer one for sleep at all you are meant to keep offering at every sleep time until 6 months I believe

Mine had one at times up to the age of about eighteen months. Then he had a cold and couldn't breath through his mouth with the dummy in, he pulled it out and threw it across the room where it landed behind the radiator. It stayed there. That was the end of dummies for him, he never looked back.

From a year with DD1 she only had it for sleeping. I had seen a friend have big issues with her toddler wanting a dummy all the time.

DD had one, just for sleeping after 8 months. Dummy fairy visited when she was 3, no issues with speech, teeth or anything else and she didn't bat an eyelid when they went.

The way I see it, if they want something in their mouth to help them soothe and settle to sleep then better something you can control than a thumb or a fist you can't take away when you decide enough is enough!
