potty training and frequency of pooing

Started training dd (22 months) 3 days ago. So-far going well and only 3 accidents but whereas she used to do 3 or 4 poos a day, she only does one now. Also seems to wee very infrequenctly. Is this normal or is she holding them in because she's scared to do them in the potty? She doesn't seem upset by it and is really proud of herself when she goes in the potty. Just a bit worried that I am going to traumatise her especially as she is so young.

Also how often should I ask her if she needs to go? Think I might be doing it too much (every 30 mins or so) and doing her head in...

..and am taking her out for the day tomorrow - is it OK to put her in pull-ups or will this make her think it's OK to wee/poo in her nappy?

Any advice greatly appreciated...Oh the joys...

Hi Skidaddle

I potty trained dd (who is 2 and 3 quarters) about 3 weeks ago. I was amazed at how long she was able to wait between wees. Sometimes as long as 2.5 hours.

22 months is quite young, but if she is coping well then that's great.

I really wouldn't put her in pull-ups when you go out. Just put an old towel on the car seat, take loads of spare clothes and a potty and go for it!

Put her on the loo/potty just before you go out and then at regular intervals while you're out. If she's not weeing every half hour, then you may not need to offer her the potty every half hour. Try every 45 minutes and see how that goes, then every hour etc.

thanks littlefish,

she goes much longer than 2.5 hours between wees - for example this morning she didn't wee or poo from 8am until 1pm when she went down for her nap - seems like a really long time and she was drinking lots of milk and water so i don't know where it goes!! She does always wake up from her nap with a wet nappy but surely 5 hours is too long???

She's obviously just got an extra large bladder! Very useful for long shopping trips .

Just keep offering her the potty regularly, but don't insist if she refuses it.

Hope the day out went well.
