Chickenpox vaccination for toddler with newborn baby due

Hi there.

My toddler is 2 years old and I want to get him vaccinated against chickenpox.

But I have a baby due next month.

Is it a problem to have my son vaccinated in the near future or will the newborn be susceptible to any health risks by doing so? Trying to find out from the clinics but difficult to get through...

Thanks

We had DS vaccine done at Boots. I remember there being info on their website which maybe helpful.

I was asked more than once whether he would be in contact with anyone pregnant or with lowered immune system

They can't have it if you're pregnant I think. I was asked multiple times at both doses if I was pregnant or if toddler had regular contact with pregnant family or friends. It's a live vaccine so not sure about when they'd do it with a newborn either. Probably worth speaking to the pharmacist where you'd have it done.

I got it when 37 weeks pregnant, second dose when baby was 2 weeks old. No problems unless you're around immunosuppressed people

My DS (2) had it when I was around 3/4 months pregnant. They knew I was pregnant but it was fine. I think the risk is if they contract CP from the vaccination (it’s rare but can happen) and the pregnant person hasn’t already had CP. as if had it as a child it wasn’t a problem.

However, if you’re due soon then I probably wouldn’t give it to your DC as if they develop CP it could be caught by the baby once born.

*As I had it as a child, it wasn’t a problem.
