How did you get rid of your swaddle?

For everyone who has swaddled perhaps a little longer than recommended, how did you eventually stop?

DS is 4.5m and is rather attached to his swaddle, he sleeps soundly for hours and hours in it but I am aware this is something that we should stop soon. I have tried cold turkey a few times but it hasn't worked, last time he was just laying there in his cot wide awake and chatting for 2 hours - we gave in and swaddled him and he instantly fell asleep 🙁

We gave up swaddling about 3 weeks ago when little one was just over 4 months. I was terrified to do it as she slept so well in the swaddle.

She was originally wrapped arms by side. We bought a love to dream 50/50 transition bag. She first slept 3 nights with both arms up and in. Then did 1 week with 1 arm out (apparently helps if you leave the non dominant arm out first) then let both out. She now sleeps in a normal sleeping bag and has been great. She also sleeps with both arms sprawled out!

Thanks Mizy, glad to hear your transitional swaddle worked. We did get one and after a bad experience hid it in a drawer but I think we'll try it again.
It sounds like what we need, he just couldn't seem to get used to arms up after having arms wrapped down.. He just kept knocking out his dummy and then not being able to get it back without us but hopefully his arms will be free soon enough!

We went cold turkey - the first night was awful, he woke every 45 minutes until 11pm when we gave up and put him back in the swaddle. We tried again and the second night was much better! After the third night, he cracked it.

Good luck!
