4 year old been ignored by friend upset how to cope

They are both in pre school. He has a really good friend and they have met out of pre school and done stuff together a few times. It was arranged that the lad would come and play at our house but the day came and mum hasn't answered my texts. My son keeps asking about seeing his friend out of pre school and I just don't know what to say
Any ideas?

Just tell him he is busy and can’t play today, or the truth that you can’t get hold of his mummy to arrange anything. That’s what I’d tell my 4 year old and she would understand.

Well I'd tell the truth his mummy's not answering
It's not your fault or his fault
Unfortunately that's life I wish it wasn't

Do you think they’re deliberately ignoring you? I’d be more concerned that something had happened and they couldn’t attend, if it was all arranged. Hopefully the mum just forgot or lost her phone

I’d probably just tell my 4 year old that his friend was busy today after all. And then try and answer the onslaught of questions. I’d probably distract him with something, like an ice cream or whatever to make up for his disappointment.

I think it's more likely that the person forgot or didn't want to. In my experience.
Happens quite often unfortunately.

I would say "oh dear looks like little Tim cant come today lets go to the park and we can ask him to come and play another day" then breezily get on with your day.

Op isn't this the second thread that you have started about thjs situation? Do you think that your son may be picking up on your intense anxiety around this?

anothernamejeeves · 04/01/2020 20:43

No he's not picking up on anything I'm trying to avoid him mentioning this child and district him yet he keeps coming back to when can he see him when is he coming round etc

Just tell tell him you have no idea as his mum hasn't got back to you. End of discussion. Two threads on this seems a bit much to be honest, I know you don't think your little one is picking up on any anxiety, but I'd put money on the fact he is.

That's just what children do
