Baby 12w inconsolable

My ds is having his second episode of inconsolable crying and i wanted to see if others had some advice? He was a colicky baby from weeks 6-10, and has since calmed down possibly due to a probiotic we're giving him. On xmas day hre screamed in what looked like pain for hours on end, stopping only to sleep. We took him into a&e and they did a urine test and checked for bowel obstruction and all clear. Did a few farts there and was completely fine the rest of the day.

Come today and he's woken up screaming just the same. Ive given him some paracetamol as directed by the hospital and he's finally asleep on me. What could it be??

I know it's a bit of a MN cliche OP, but has baby been checked for tongue tie?

Could it be painful wind? Have you tried giving him infacol before a feed? Does seem from what you've said like he's in pain, does he have a fever?

Earache? Reflux? Is he on formula? If so, could you try a different one?

If he's on formula what kind is he on? I wanted to use the fancy new aptamil (was new at the time) with my DS who is now 2, but it has a high dairy fat content and gave him a very unsettled tummy. I had used regular aptamil with my DD so didn't even consider it could be formula, but once I switched to a regular formula he was fine on any one of those.

Could it also be a cows milk protein allergy? I have no experience of this but I hear it a lot when it comes to unsettled babies so maybe it's worth investigating?

Thanks all. So he's breastfed except the last feed at 11pm when dh gives him formula plus the probiotic. Ive thought about it and both times we've had this it has been when he's missed the probiotic the night before so it might be the reason. Argh! Baby wont take a bottle from me anymore so it's reliant on dh being up and ready.

He did a HUGE loud fart just before settling and i think that was a massive bit of trapped wind. It's amazing how much it can hurt, poor little guy.

Did you have a read of the article on tongue tie OP and did any of the symptoms sound familiar?

Selfsettling3 · 30/12/2019 19:41

If it’s trapped wind try bicycling legs and anticolic massage.

RainbowSlide · 30/12/2019 22:37

Yes i read the tongue tie stuff, to be honest he's been checked for that and no signs at all. Thanks though

The only thing that seems to help the trapped wind is this probiotic for babies. I can't get him to swallow infacol. Oh and big yes to the bicycle legs!

We also try bouncing on one knee which sometimes helps.

Probiotic gave my DD terrible wind problems. We took her to an osteopath in the end and it seemed to sort most of her colic / reflux / wind issues out.
