we're finding our mamas and papas pliko pramette pretty un user-friendly and want to buy something else. what do other mums recommend? we live in an upstairs flat so the pram needs to be lightweight and able to fold/collapse easily to carry up the stairs, and easy to put up again. unfortunately the pliko isn't - apparently it's better as a push chair. (it's a lovely pram once you've got it up but we're finding it awkward/fiddly).
recommendations please!

I don't know of many lightweight prams the one you're got is one of the lightest of it's type. Jane systems are super lightweight but expensive as are many systems that have a chassis and then you can add seat or carrycot or car seat. If you want reasonable and lightweight then a stroller might be better for you? Depending on age of child there are loads about and they're affordable. Most people find they prefer these to big prams/pushchairs.

Hi we live in an upstairs flat too and before ds2 was born we used a quinny zapp. didn't bother to fold it just bumped him up and down, only thing with this is its from 6 months and it doesn't lie back but ds1 sleeps anywhere !

Maclaren Techno XT

suitable from birth
lies flat
easy to collapse
folds small

doesn't face you though

how old is your dc?

Your best bet is probably a techno xt not especially light but to be suitable from birth it's probably the best you're going to get.

MrsBadger · 31/08/2007 21:01

tis light comapred to the Pramette

daisyandbabybootoo · 31/08/2007 21:04

ooh I second the techno XT. Had one with DS as a buggy from about 10 months and loved it. DD is 12 weeks and I bought a great lumbering thing from mothercare. Am now selling said great lumbering thing as we have used the techno much more as it fits nicely in the boot of the car!

We've had her in it since two weeks old and it's great!

I live in a flat with no lift too and got by in early days with a sling, then got a Graco Citisportwhich is absolutely brilliant, incredibly light, foldable with one hand, comfy to push, big basket. It's not beautiful so I bought a chocolate brown Maclaren triumph when DS got big enough, but the Citisport knocks spots off it

CarGirl · 31/08/2007 21:06

forgot about the citisport yes it folds flat, folds one handed, very light etc etc Easy to steer to!!! They are quite small so not great for toddlers but they are inexpensive and will easy last you the first year then splash out on something else you like. Think you can get them new of ebay for about £50 plus £10 for a raincover.

shreddies · 31/08/2007 22:23

This is very light and says it's suitable from birth

Another Techno XT fan here - used from birth.
