Disposables allergy

DD uses Motherease reusable nappies and we have no problems with them. To begin with we used disposables but stopped when she was a couple pf months and had no probs then either. HOwever, if I put a disposable on her now she immediately comes out in a horrible rash and big red welts, although I don't think it is actually sore. EVen very thick barrier creams don't help. I'm not sure what to do when we go away- las t time we used Pampers and it took weeks for her bot to clear up afterwards. We're going away again next week (definitely no way of washing them) and I was wondering if anybody had any advice on either a brand that is more sensitive or a way of preventing the reaction. (would paper liners in them help?)

try not using the liners for a while. Have you tried the pampers sensitive disposables for when you need them? my ds is the same..stopped using the liners for a while and he was much better. Just had to change him a bit more frequently.

I use Nature Boy and Girl disposables (from Sainsbury's, not sure who else stocks them) as much more of the nappy is made from natural materials. They don't have that chemical smell that other disposables have so you may like to give them a go. They also do degradable nappy bags and wipes.

Hi Hayls - my dd has the same problem - she is fine as long as we use washables but comes out in a terrible rash as soon as we put disposables on her. When we are away I try to use the washables as much as I can (especially overnight) but we have recently found that Moltex nappies are OK with her - I order them from Little Green Earthlets and we've had no bother.

Another vote for Moltex. Dd has a similar reaction to some makes fo disposable. The rash is probably caused by the lotions that many disposables have in them. IME Pampers were the worst! Paper liners won't help because once the nappy has been wee'd in, the lotion will pass through the liner. Some babies are sensitive to the latex in the elasticated bits that go round the thighs. I'm fairly sure that there is a non-latex disposable, but I don't remember which one it is...possibly Tushies? I doubt whether you'll be able to get Moltex in time for your holiday (they're mail order only). At the moment we are using Tesco's own brand (not the budget one) which are ok, though not as good as Moltex. Huggies are also ok for us.

BTW, Moltex are the only disposies that don't have any lotions in them. I'm not sure about Tushies, they may be lotion-free too.

Hayls - Naturebotts sell the cheapest Moltex on the net (phone order - not online yet). Really really great customer service and next day delivery at no extra cost. They also sell huge rolls of biodegradable nappy sacks which are fab. No lotions or potions - just tea in the absorbant bit to stop smells. We use them on holidays and can't fault them. They're obviously not going to be as absorbant as Pampers etc, because they don't have the scary sodium polyacrylate crystals, but still excellent.

Thanks, donn't know if I'll get the Moltex ones befoer I go away but I'll order some anyway-they're good for emergencies like when I forget to turn the washing machine on! I'll maybe try the NAture Boy ones if they don't arrive in time.

Mumsnet to thte rescue!

Ds2 is the same. I haven't found any yet that don't react with him, so unless we take the reusable ones with us and wash them, he has to out up with the rash and the scratching and bleeding etc.

Sorry , no help, but I sympathise.
