Professional newborn photography, yes or no?

First baby is due early Jan. Am debating whether or not to get a professional newborn photo shoot done. They are so cute, and baby will only be a newborn once. Baby will be my only child. On the other hand I can't help but think its a bit of a frivolous expense.

If you like it, want it and can afford it then why not. Completely your choice

BumpLoading · 22/12/2019 21:19

I think its definitely worth it if you can afford to, we did one (left it a bit late though and did it at 7 weeks) and I'm so glad we did. Is expensive but we were given money from a relative so used that Smile

Yes do it. I wish we had xx

Yes they change so much! Mine was all swaddled up like a little seed - so cute!

TheElfFellOffTheShelf · 22/12/2019 21:53

We did and the photos are lovely. We went mad though and bought loads of the prints but only have 3 on display; the others are still in their envelope! I'd say go for it but don't feel like you have to buy all of the prints!

ItFigures · 22/12/2019 21:55

I did OP and so glad I did. The photos were so lovely and it was really special.

Bol87 · 22/12/2019 23:03

We didn’t bother, mostly as I’m quite into photography & have a decent camera. I was happy with my own photos.. I much prefer natural, bone posed shots on the whole but that’s just my style!

Mostly your own preference & budget I’s say!

Bol87 · 22/12/2019 23:03

*none posed

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/12/2019 23:07

Didn’t do one but literally took 10s of photos daily and made a point to get them printed (using an app) every 3Months. I love looking back at them, don’t think I’d love a pic of my baby in a bucket more

Celebelly · 22/12/2019 23:08

We did, but the best pictures aren't so much of baby (although there are some really good ones) but of the three of us and the ones of me and her, as I'm usually the one taking the pics! It means we have nice pics of us as a family and pics of me with her that I don't think we would have otherwise.

Mumdiva99 · 22/12/2019 23:12

Yes if you can afford it. I had an expensive hand print done for my first (ha ha not the others as seemed frivolous by then!!) It's lovely. We had some professional photos for youngest two, nice to look back at. But, if you have to struggle to do it then it's not worth it. Just take some of your own pictures. They are nice but not essential.

BackforGood · 22/12/2019 23:22

Unless you are very wealthy and really wouldn't miss the money, I wouldn't.
With digital photography you can take hundreds of photos - believe me you'll find some cute ones amongst them.
Just print, or enlarge the ones you like.

Stroan · 22/12/2019 23:32

Of you can afford it, then yes.

We've done it with both our DC as I knew it was the only way that I'd get pictures of me with the baby. We use a photographer who is very natural and came to our house. They are very prized possessions.

With DS in particular, he has changed so much between the newborn shoot and 4 months so I'm really pleased to have the pictures to look back on.

Tigger001 · 22/12/2019 23:37

Yes, if you can comfortably afford it.

They are amazing to look back on and it saves asking DH or someone to do it.

A professional makes it quicker, calmer and more beautiful.

1Micem0use · 22/12/2019 23:45

Thanks for all the advice :) I'm going to go for it. I can afford it comfortably. I'm just a bit tight I guess! Theres so many baby products and services, and as a first time mum sometimes it's hard to know what's a gimmick and what I actually will need/ is worth spending money on.

Just avoid the big commercial photo shoot companies! Go for a recommended independent photographer !

DappledThings · 23/12/2019 20:12

I've never seen one that didn't look really weird. All those strange ones where they are composite photos because the poses they are in aren't actually possible. Or close ups of feet. They could be anyone's feet. They all look the same.

Hi IMicem0use, have you booked your Newborn session? I offer a hour mini newborn session but I'm based in Essex.
