Hi
Before putting my baby on this milk for his reflux i just wondered if anyone had any experience of using this with their baby?
Thanks

Yes used it recently for reflux baby (19 weeks). Points from my experience:

  • Had to doctor all my teats so the milk would flow through as it is thick but still clogged up sometimes
  • can't pre make a bottle to take out with you as it thickens too much
  • if you don't rinse the bottle straight after feeding it's a nightmare to clean out the thick jelly milk at the bottom
  • It's a complete faff to make (leaving water to cool enough, leave to stand for 7 minutes or something, can't shake the bottle)
  • baby considerably less sicky on it

By day 4 baby was screaming at every bottle and we went back to normal milk. Cost me £20 to replace all the teats I had cut to make the holes bigger.

Heard it works wonders for some though! If you're near South Devon I've got half a tub you're welcome to Grin

We use HIPP anti reflux for my boy and he was a terrible feeder before moving to this milk, although his medication probably also played a part but it was all working so I was always too nervous to change anything! Why fix it if it ain’t broke type thing.
It is a faff (size 3 teats and a 7 minute wait to thicken) but you get used to it. Worked for my boy I would say. He definitely only started feeding better and putting on weight once we switched. I presume all the reflux milks are similar. And like I say he was properly medicated by then as well (silent reflux)

And actually in the middle of all of this we changed to sma lactose free because our health visitor was convinced he had an intolerance (he doesn’t) and he immediately went back to terrible feeding and being agitated so actually the anti reflux milk probably worked better than I give it credit for.

We used aptimil anti reflux from 9 weeks to just now at 22 weeks. Only annoying thing was the 7 minute wait (I sometimes didn’t wait...) and the milk was thicker. We went a size up on teats (depends on the bottle, dr browns we went up a size but mam the next size was too fast so trial and error). Yes it does thicken over time but I would still make a bottle to use within half hour or so if I was going somewhere. Baby was a lot better but also on medication so hard to tell which helped or if it was just time. Worth trying though.

The other option is to use normal formula and then a thickener such as carobel but I think that would be more confusing.

Good luck !

Our DS has been on it for the last 7 months and is just weaning off it as he's one. We never had any trouble with it. Things we've learnt in case it helps:

  • you can still use the perfect prep machine. Do the hot shot then instead of adding powder press the button again for the rest of the water. Then once all the water is in the bottle add the powder and shake.

-if out and about prefill your bottles with previously boiled water but do 2 ounces less than needed (can use prep machine for this) . Have your powder premeasured in a pot. Take a thermos of hot water. When needed add 2 ounces of hot water to the cooler water in the bottle and then add the powder like normal. Sounds a faff but became second nature after a while.

-if its just the thickness of the milk that's needed you can get cow and gate carobel powder for cheaper. Can get off amazon.

-sit the baby quite upright to feed and keep upright for 15mins after.

My grandson was 5 wks early, and always had feeding problems, so once home and bottle fed. The reflux was bad. Although was on medication for it. We tryed the C&G reflux, and from almost the 1st bottle his feeding changed. All the bottle was staying down. He is happier, and sleeps better. He was always waking up early for feeds. A couple of things to remember. This milk thinkens, o cleaning bottles as soon as possible, is a plus. And with any change of a babies feed will change the babies poops. My grandsons poop changed colour to a yellow almost jelly like poop. This should settle down after a couple of days. It's helped my Grandson, which means less stress for mum n dad. I hope this helps anyone considering using C&G reflux formula. We would recommend it.
