Do I bother getting a double pram?

I'm due my second baby at the beginning of April. My dd will be 3 at the end of may.
I really can't decide if I need a double pram or do I just put the baby in a carrier.
Dd isn't a great Walker, she's ok for short distances but I usually put her in her buggy if I need to go to the shops or will be walking for a longer time.
She can also be a runner sometimes and will decide she wants to do one at the drop of a hat. So I'm worried that if I was to put the baby in the buggy and have dd walk it would be a bit of a nightmare. And if I got a buggy board she may hate it and want to get off every five minutes.
Also to add I live in a terraced with a really narrow hall, so would have to be a tandem if I did get a double.
Any mums of two have any advice?

A single pram with buggy board with seat would be a good option

I agree with PP, you may find your older child might not want to be in a pram when your little one is here x

3/4 months is a look time in the life of a toddler and every child is different...

There are the options of a buggy board with the seat attached.
Depends on how often your out and about, walks, parks, public transport etc, theres pros and cons to everything

Its going to be right at the beginning of warm weather (hopefully 🤞)
So she can have a rest / drink / shade in the buggy when it gets to hot
So think i would get a double.

I'd go for the buggy board on a single. A pair of reins and get her used to scooting maybe. Won't be great initially, but as the baby gets to sox months and older, having your older one scooting next to you will be great!

Single and buggy board and a sling in the basket underneath. If she gets v tired you can put her in the buggy and the baby in the sling for a bit.

I had a similar gap, bought a double pram and only used it about 3 times! I'd say single with a buggy board, unless you're happy to buy a double and if you don't use it after a few months sell on to find a single.

I never got a double and mostly it's been fine. But I will say last week while trying to wrangle a walking-as-slowly-as-humanly-possible tired nearly 3 year old through a busy shopping centre (she was refusing to get on buggy board) while pushing her brother in the buggy I did see a lady with her toddlers in a double buggy and wished very much I had one.

Not relevant to your main point, but I wanted to recommend the Littlelife rucksacks with reins for your DD. Mine occasionally bolts and it's been such a help.

My DD was three the week after DD was born. I spent the few months before getting her to walk more and more as I was determined I wouldn't need a double - I didn't 😊

megletthesecond · 20/12/2019 20:25

I'd get a double. Mine were in and out of it until 4.6yrs.
Once she walks more you can use her seat for shopping. Although it also depends on how fast you walk and what errands you use it for.

Depends what you are going to use it for... I had an 18 month gap and DD starting school so needed one for the school run when I can’t mess about getting the toddler to walk! If we go to the supermarket not I use a trolley for both little ones, and let the toddler walk if it’s a more relaxed venture out...

Not sure I'd go for a buggy board. Everyone I know who has one, walks at a funny angle because the buggy wasn't designed for that extra bit added on, and gets rid of it as soon as the older child gets off. If you're doing a lot of walking (and the older one won't walk a lot), you need to think about the impact on your back as well. Agree that many kids don't do loads of walking until 4-ish.

I'm due my second little girl in three weeks and my first DD will be 2.7 years - we've gone for a double buggy, I think for me personally it would be too difficult getting out and about without one (I can't drive so when DH isn't around I'm totally on foot!)

My first DD sounds like yours, she enjoys walking but does get tired and lags after a short while, and I think she'd constantly be trying to climb off of a buggy board too. I'm also worried about going somewhere busy like a city centre and her getting trodden on. 🙈
Luckily shes 'tested' the new pram at home and is very excited to share with her new sister!
