Hi all, baby had his 10 month check and HV checked his leg creases etc. He has ever so slightly uneven bum crease and one leg seems shorter.
Hes been crawling a long time and is now cruising and taking 3/4 steps unaided .
Has anyone had this with their babies and it be nothing? I'm terrified its hip dysplasia which is what is coming up when I google.
The thought of him in a cast (super clingy baby) who loves being on the move is making me so sad! How would I cope with work etc?!
I'm waiting for a referral after seeing the gp Tuesday. She said it will be an ultrasound or xray.
He has full range of movement in the hip and his newborn hip check was fine. 2nd born. Normal delivery. Not breech. No family history
I'm really overthinking everything.
Thanks all

I can’t give you the news you’re hoping for as my DD had uneven leg creases and hip dysplasia. However, this was picked up in the newborn check - suggesting either This check was missed when your DC was newborn, or they have developed uneven creases as they’ve grown. I’m by no means an expert but if they weren’t there at birth it’s probably a weaker link to dysplasia. Even if it is hip dysplasia, you’re way better off having it treated and sorted now before he’s walking, just think how much worse it’d be for a toddler or child, or growing into an adult with a limp and lifetime of hip problems. Fingers crossed it’s good news

My DD passed newborn hip checks but health visitor noticed uneven leg creases. Had her X-rayed at the hospital and she was borderline within the safe limit. Went back for another X-ray after a couple of months and got the all clear. She did seem to have trouble crawling as was dragging one leg slightly behind. Took her to a chiropractor who made a few adjustments. Said that her leg was out of alignment and therefore shorter than the other one but went back in alignment after the adjustments. Started crawling normally a few days after that. All good now

Hi I am nurse and I work in a DDH (developmental dysplasia hip) clinic. At 10 months it will be an X-ray your baby will have which will assess both hips. Babies can in fact develop hip problems as they grow this is why they now call it developmental dysplasia instead of congenital dysplasia. There are lots of treatment options nowadays and far better to catch it now than later on down the road. Any questions feel free to ask. Best of luck with your appointment Smile

My referral has come through for March!! Surely this is too long to wait if its suspected?

DS had uneven creases at his ten month check, nothing of concern before then, he was actually only nine months at the check but had started cruising by then and we'd not noticed any mobility concerns other than he crawled with hands and feet like a bear rather than in his knees. We were referred to the gp the same week, who watched him clamber around did some mobility checks and said he didn't have any worries that HVs refer a lot of babies, almost half in our area and only a small percentage have dysplasia but that he'd refer to the hospital to be on the safe side. We then went for an X ray a week after and everything was fine. March does seem like a long time for an x-ray can you not call and book it yourself? That's what I had to do once we got the referral letter.

March is a long time isnt it. They have referred him to paediatric orthopedics/physio so unsure if i can go straight to an xray x
