Hi everyone

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am a very new parent and my five week old son has caught a cold. Has no temperature. Please can I have some tips on how to soothe and comfort him?

Thank you.

It's tough! Hang in there. My nearly 7 month old is currently on his third cold/flu. Each time getting worse!
Things I find that help are:

  1. Bogey extractor (aka nasal aspirator)
  2. Saline drops
  3. Klearvol on a muslin. Hang nearby their head.
  4. Take in steamy bathroom and have a hot shower.
  5. Humidifier ( don't know if this actual helps at all but I bought one from John Lewis).
  6. Calpol is they are out of sorts and need to settle.
It will get better. It will get better. It will get better!

Oh I also raise the head of his next to me crib for sleeping. And try for lots of naps. Every two hours if you can, but don't stress if you can't.

5 weeks is too young for calpol. Little ones are expected to get 10 colds in their first year. They are often tougher than we give them credit for.

Karvol is also unsuitable for babies under three months

I always thought you couldn't give anything until they are two months old.

It’s three months old and older than that for other products
