When did you transition to Toddler bed?

Hi all. Am currently ttc baby no2, no1 is 11 months old atm. Of course it will depend how long it take to conceive, altho first time only took 2 months so I'm hopeful... Anyway, am trying to assess what I'll need to buy for baby no 2. Ds will be 20 months old onwards, he's currently in his cot bed with all sides up. It is one that can convert into a toddler bed low on the grown with the sides off. When did you transition to this? Do you think I'll need another cot and keep him in that for a while, or can I use the cot for the new baby and get him a toddler bed? Will it be handy keeping him in the cot so he can't get out at that age?! Xx

We moved DS into a single bed in his new “big boy bedroom” at about 21 months as we wanted the cot and nursery for new baby DD, and he was climbing out anyway. Never had any problems at all with the transition. He settled on his own as normal and slept all night. We got a gro clock so he knew when he could get up on a morning. He still follows it now at age 4.5.

DD is 26 months. Still happy in her cot and no intention of moving her any time soon.

Id just get a single bed (or whatever size bed you want) and a bed guard, rather than a toddler bed. Then you aren’t buying him a new bed in a couple of years time when he outgrows it

My daughter went straight from cot to normal single age 3. My son is a 2.5 and still on cot so will probably do the same with him. Neither have tried to climb out the cots so no hurry.

Sorry, I've only just realised you asked me a question. Yes, with a (very light) duvet. He moved in April/May and it was a small room so stayed quite warm, which meant if the duvet slipped off he didn't really notice.
