My DS is 13 weeks old, wondered how much awake time your LOs have/had at this age and what you do with them when they are awake? FTM so no idea what I'm doing 🙈

I reckon my lo (12 weeks) has about 5-6 hours awake time between 7am and 9pm. Also FTM and loosely based our routine on Gina ford contented baby book.

Thank you! How long does your LO stay awake and nap for?

At 13 weeks I think mine could only manage 45 minutes awake before she needed to nap and that nap would be anything from 30 mins - 3 hours

As a very rough guide we do the following (allow I think lo is starting leap 4 from the wonder weeks app so sleeps a little bit less)-
Up at 7am for a bottle
Sleeps 8.30-10
Bottle at 10
Sleeps 11.30-1
Bottle at 1.30
Sleeps 3-4.30
Bottle 5
Sleep 7-8
Bottle 8.30
Sleeps 9pm-7am

Just to note I have never really fed on demand. We wrote down her rough feed and sleep times during weeks 2-3 and came up with a routine. Lo is also bottle fed and has been since 2 weeks old. I know we may be an anomaly but I put it down to feeding every 3-3.5 hours.

Must add she hasn't been sleeping 10 hours since 3 weeks! More like 6/7 weeks

About 60 to 90 mins at a time. Talk them all the time, sing them songs, show them things as you go about your day.

My eldest mostly slept between feeds at that age. He'd be awake for an hour or so for feeding and changing and a bit longer once or twice a day. I am was a children's nurse and I put it down to that.

Then, 15 months later I had my second, she was awake most of the day right from the start. I was lucky if she had half an hour between feeds, maybe 45 minutes once a day. Longest sleep was from around 7pm until 10, then not more than an hour at a time overnight and didn't want to sleep even then. She didn't sleep a night through until she started walking. (And she could throw herself over the bars of her cot at months.

Every child is individual, they don't read the books, some will barely wake to feed, others (like my dear daughter) treat sleep like something to be avoided at all costs.

Routines help some, and it's definitely worth a go, others want to feed all day one day and really don't care another. Your baby is who he/she is, work with them and just try to relax.

Even my mum couldn't settle my daughter (much to her disgust) and I'm one of 7 so she had had plenty of practice, so don't think for one minute that inexperience necessarily makes a difference - although they do sense nervousness and that can unsettle them.

Oh great thanks everyone ☺️ he does about 60-90 mins so looks as though he's about 'average'.

Help!!!

My little girl is 11 weeks and is an awful sleeper over night. Most nights she won’t go down for the night until 2/3, and that’s not too bad, sometimes it’s 5. No matter what we do she will not settle at a normal time. She can go 12+ hours being awake at night, for example she can wake up from her last nap at 4pm and then not go to sleep again until 4am. I try and watch her awake windows and after a 1-2 hours try to put her down but she won’t have any of it. Sometimes she falls asleep whilst I’m holding her but the second I put her down she wakes up and looks as if she wasn’t tired at all. I’ve tried putting her down drowsy and she just cries. I’ve picked her up and settled her and tried again and nothing seems to work. When she does eventually sleep she will usually have a 4 hour sleep and then wake up for a feed and go back to bed for a bit. I’ve tried not letting her have really long naps, I’ve tried letting her nap as long as she wants and I really don’t know what else to do as nothing seems to make a difference. Please help me!
