Toys for 3 month old

We've got a gym that he isn't very interested in, a couple of rattles which he doesn't mind and only one toy he actually plays with, no idea how to describe it!

What do your 3 month olds play with?

--------

This thread is a little old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for the top baby toys, we’ve recently updated our best baby toys page with lots of great options for your baby's first year, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

At around 3.5 months my daughter got really into a kick and play piano which is basically a play mat with a keyboard at one end which makes a sound when kicked. She also really liked a sensory rattle that I bought from Amazon because it lit up and changed colour as you shake it.

popcorndiva · 14/12/2019 13:42

Emergency foil blanket.

MustardScreams · 14/12/2019 13:57

Dd played with empty crisp packets mostly at that age Grin Mirrors, those crinkly books, anything very loud and bright.

Ours likes a Lamaze toy called Captain Calamari. Also books (with bright pictures), mirrors and a fluffy fleece blanket.

But tbh she still likes us best - she plays with my fingers, and enjoys her dad clapping and singing.

georgialondon · 14/12/2019 14:02

I'd get a jumperoo. By 4 months old it's the dream gift.

BumpLoading · 14/12/2019 14:30

Mine loves lamaze toys too we've got some toy story ones, he loves bullseye as it jingles. Also any toys which make a noise like we have a teddy duck which quacks and he loves that.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/12/2019 14:47

My three month old didn’t really “play” as such- did a lot of tummy time on the mat, staring up at a mat, played music to her, read books to her- one of those tummy time roller things - can’t remeber what age I got her into those stacking cups

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 15:01

Thank you for all the suggestions! I've attached a pic of the thing he loves, trouble is he keeps hitting himself in the face with it and it's quite hard and makes him cry 😬🙈 he just doesn't seem interested with the gym so will definitely try some of those suggestions! Xx

At that age DS liked looking at things more than actually interacting with things. So anything with high contrast on it or anything that looked like a face was perfect.

If you're looking for Christmas ideas, it's a good age to get a Jumperoo - but look in the sales after Christmas or second hand, they are expensive full price.

BertieBotts · 14/12/2019 15:15

If he likes that, look at the Winkel or the Skwish.

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 16:08

Ooh thank you I will have a look! A friend is giving us a jumperoo but I wondered if he was too little?

How much do your LOs like playing?

20viona · 14/12/2019 16:10

Not much entertains her but an emergency foil blanket is a winner

BertieBotts · 14/12/2019 16:25

Usually about 4 months for the jumperoo. They need to be quite stable with their heads. If he's too short you can put a couple of thick A4 books under his feet. We used to use Yellow Pages but you don't get them any more.

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 16:26

@20viona haha I will have to get one! I get worried he's not going to learn anything because he just doesn't like playing with anything! Me and DH spend ages 'playing' with him, he'll laugh and smile if we speak to him and pull faces etc but just not interested in toys!

Taf Toys cube. They’ve got mediocre reviews but DD loved hers

The Lamaze toys are fab. DD never had one but I wish she had done!

Also, any of the Munchkin teething toys. DD would play with this one for ages from 3m (even though it was a bit big to dig her teeth into):

Oops I've just accidentally put a link to chocolate pots Grin definitely not suitable for a 3m old!

I meant to attach the teether photo:

Thank you I will check it out ☺️ I think part of the problem might be teething, I can just see two coming in down at the bottom and he's CONSTANTLY eating his hands so not interested in anything else

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 16:34

Haha oh chocolate pots can be just for me then ☺️

My 5 month old loves rattles, anything that lights up and makes lots of noise.
He liked all the same stuff at 3.5 months aswell.
He's getting a jumperoo for Christmas.

Recently got him the toy attached as well. He loves it!

My lo will be 3 months on Christmas Eve. She's getting a baby safe mirror, ribbons on a ring, juggling scarves and bells 😁

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 16:37

I saw the ribbons on a ring on Amazon for £1.75 and thought they looked quite good!

BertieBotts · 14/12/2019 18:02

He's very little yet to be playing, don't worry about that, he sounds totally normal. Of course he'll be able to learn! He's just learning in a more observational way at the moment. It tends to be 4-6 months that they actually start trying to manipulate objects by hand etc.

Nc1468 · 14/12/2019 18:16

That's good to know! I was worried he wasn't really interested and wouldn't learn anything (FTM) constantly worried he's not coming on as well as other babies his age!

Eveting2019 · 14/12/2019 18:21

@Nc1468 humans are much more fun to interact with than toys at that age. He is very little for toys. I personally wouldn’t bother getting him toys for his age now but I would get him something he will enjoy in a few months time.

INeedNewShoes · 14/12/2019 19:33

It's true that they aren't that interested in toys at 3m but DD started to be interested then and by 4/5m she really was playing with these toys. They change so quickly.

I've just remembered another favourite which was a taggy toy (basically a comfort blanket with ribbons of different textures).
