Anybody had this, it is about the size of a fifty pence piece. No cuts or tears on or near bottom. The doctor has advised that the baby be taken for a stool sample this afternoon. the baby is nearly 4 months. Any experience? TIA

I do know someone who this happened to - but I'm afraid I don't have any very useful information, except that the baby was absolutely fine. If I remember correctly the baby was about the same age (under 6 months at any rate) and had to be checked up carefully by the doctor. I can't even remember if they ever found a cause for the blood.

Sorry not to be more use - I hope you get some reassurance from the doctors really soon.

popsycal · 28/09/2004 16:45

meant you COULD NOT see it sorry

Forestfly · 28/09/2004 16:47

I remember one of the children I was a nanny to had blood in her nappy and the mum was told it was a hormone thing to do with breast feeding and mums hormones. like a period. sounds really weird I know. I can't remeber how old she was but I think she was younger than 6 months she may have even been newborn. so therefore a totally diff situation. sorry.

I have no idea what happened apart from she is now 17 years old and is fine.

FF, DS has had this - I mentioned it to the HV and she didn't have a clue, just told me to keep an eye on it and take him to the doctor if it happened again - it hasn't so far. DS is also BF if that has anything to do with it.

Forestfly · 28/09/2004 17:17

Thanks everyone, i have been looking for other threads on this as i am sure i remember something about what kangamummy suggested. Does anyone else remember an old thread on this?

FF, I am sure I started a thread at the time DS had his bloody nappy but I can't find it . . . I don't think I am using this search thing properly sometimes - I do recall Codswallop posting I think.

Forestfly · 28/09/2004 17:28

I need codswallop she is the master of finding old threads

I found it - called What Can This Be? under archived threads. Kangamummy didn't post though so maybe it was another? Hope you find it!

I remember it happening to dd2 when she was small. I panicked because it had never happened with dd1, and was told it was quite common in baby girls. I think she was younger though, was something about hormones as Kanga mentioned.
