Favourite Age of Child

My DS is now 18 months and genuinely I think this is my favourite bit so far.

I've loved most of the time since I became a Mum but everything just seems more exciting and rewarding now hes got to this age and I can see him using his brain more. I'm not wishing it away but I can't wait for him to grasp a few more words but generally in one way or another he can tell me what he wants.

What has been your favourite age of your DC?

The older mine get the more I enjoy it to be honest! Mine are 6, 4 and 11 months. 6 year old is a delight, we have lovely trips out together, great conversations, she’s so inquisitive and eager to learn everything about everything.
4 year old has just started school and it’s lovely seeing her so proud of herself for learning to read and write.
11 month old doesn’t sleep and is currently trying to pull down my Christmas tree, but he’s cute Grin.

elbeagle my DS pulled the tree down the day after it was put up. Pointed and said 'uhoh'🙄
I wanted to cry😭

Every time they get older tbh! Two was better than one, four better than three, now at 8 they are amazing, proper little mates, we talk about all sorts and they are genuinely brilliant company. I think I want to freeze them here though, still come in to bed for cuddles, hold my hand etc. I dont want that to stop.

Aw inwood that's so nice to hear. I think as a new parent you hear so much about "ooh wait for the terrible twos, threenager, start becoming independent at school..." its nice to know you've still enjoyed those years.

My son is almost 2, and the last six months or so have been utterly amazing. He never stops talking, runs around everywhere and is adorably affectionate.

Rubyroost · 09/12/2019 17:11

My son is also (just about) two, he too is absolutely amazing and I can't imagine him getting any better. But as time goes on each time I think this age is the best and then he ages just that little bit more and I think this age is the best! So I guess I won't be able to properly answer the q until he's a fully grown adult.

Rubyroost · 09/12/2019 17:14

@therewerefour whilst probably not in the midst of terrible twos quite yet, we do have little tantrums and I have found them quite cute to be honest. He tries really hard to tantrum and fails miserably. 😂 He started to bang his head on the floor and doors, realised it hurt too much and went for softer items. We just ignored him and that stage is over now.

I loved every age my DD has been, for very different reasons. My favourite is the one she is now. Drove back from work vetching about the state of the world, very enjoyable.

She's 49, and she did the driving, even better.

FirstInGinglish · 09/12/2019 17:20

Toddlers all the way. I love them. They are complete anarchists from about 18 months until about 3. Enjoy every second of it, OP!

BertieBotts · 09/12/2019 17:24

15 months to 3. Love that.

Also DS1 has been much better company since he was about 7.

GhostEmoji · 09/12/2019 17:25

Gosh how strange, I find the 12-24 months utterly awful. I hated it with my son and now it's the same with my daughter (19m). I find it so gruelling and relentless at this stage.

I liked 0-6 months, that was magic, but my older one is now nearly 4 and it is amazing. He is so easygoing, interesting, pleasant, funny but still unbelievably cute and innocent. I absolutely adore him at this age. My 1 year old... Not so much Grin

BertieBotts · 09/12/2019 17:25

There is a chart somewhere which puts age 7-8 as "two perfect years". I think it's spot on.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2019 17:26

I would be the exact opposite to you, ghost! :o

Sometimes I wish you could do children time share :o

Elbeagle · 09/12/2019 17:28

I’m not a big fan of 0-2.5 to be honest Grin

GhostEmoji · 09/12/2019 17:29

Oh yes I would buy into that timeshare in a heartbeat!

The 12-24 month stage actually puts me off having a third as I just can't face it again! Strange how we're all so different!

Elbeagle · 09/12/2019 17:31

2.5 onwards has been much better for us. Mine haven’t been tantrummers though, and have been fairly ‘rational’ from quite young.

fishonabicycle · 09/12/2019 17:34

My son - now nearly 19 and travelling - has been lovely at most ages. Always very easy going and sensible. Maybe about 6-7 was best? But he's fantastic now and I miss him loads.

FirstInGinglish · 09/12/2019 17:36

Count me in on the timeshare. I'll have anyone's toddlers, on the condition that they take my 15 and 17 yr olds in return.

DC1 was absolutely horrendous as a toddler (is actually a very civilised 18 yo, now), but it was still my favourite age.

therewerefour · 09/12/2019 19:18

I love how diverse it can be. I liked having a new born but I definitely love having a toddler more. He just makes me laugh each day but I do miss going out to a cafe and not having to worry about what hes going to throw or how big the tantrum is going to be haha

Some of your comments gave me a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy. I think I'm a bit hormonal today!

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/12/2019 19:19

Definitely newborn .

Rubyroost · 09/12/2019 20:19

Definitely newborn.?!
I'm currently pregnant and I'm both excited and dreading it at the same time. I enjoyed breastfeeding and the warm snuggles... But the sleepless nights, the lack if responsiveness and the inability of the baby to do anything in its own! I think I preferred it when my baby got to about 5 months when he was really giggly and had more of a personality l.

Rubyroost · 09/12/2019 20:20

Toddlers are hilarious. They're so happy and giggly and their happiness and laughter is so contagious. Love it x

Bluewavescrashing · 09/12/2019 20:22

5-7 is my favourite stage. They are funny, cute, have some independence, sleep 12 hours usually, can go on days out and weekends away. Still cuddly.

Bluewavescrashing · 09/12/2019 20:22

I mean, easier to travel and be out and about than with a baby. No travel cots, prams etc.

firstimemamma · 09/12/2019 20:32

Mine is 16 months and I think it's a great age! Everything is an adventure!

I found the first ten months of his life really tough. 10-12 months I really loved but still felt shattered a lot of the time. 1 year onwards I've got much more energy which helps me mentally.
