i have made some for dd3 - they are fitted style with elasticated legs and back, Velcro closing.

easy to do - converted prefolds ( use that as the pad and then bought some cheap towels, flannelette squares I had. Really easy to do.

Hi Hope all is well in sunny Oz
Strangely enough I've just found myself on an Ozzie site trying to find out which is 'better' organic cotton or hemp!!
Good instructions there even though that wasn't why I was there! it looks relatively easy was it? How hard is it to elasticate them?

Don't use nappies myself and hope I won't for many years to come . When I needed nappies for dd however, I bought them from the supermarket. Found I had enough to do without making nappies as well.

can link to the pattern I used if you like.

I made most of DD's and I'd like to brag that they are, out of all her nappies, the nicest - and way nicer than the dizzies she was in for the first two weeks ! They're just terry towelling and fleece. Elasticizing is sooo easy - in fact nappies are seriously quick and easy to make, even for me (I'm not a great seamstress). I used the wee weka pocket pattern, which is free online and bought elastic and aplix online too from an American shop - with the exchange rate they were a bargain.

Ha ha barnstaple tea on keyboard now!!
Hi Eids I'd like that link please, it will be a while before I'm with my sewing machine but I think I would like to try.
I have been googling strange nappies I see up for sale and there is a very active board in Oz I keep coming across!

Hats off ladies...I find washing them and changing them hard enough, but making them too...
Did it end up much cheaper to make them yourself?

This is serious lentil-weavery. Well done, everyone.

Honestly, I'm impressed - not just taking the piss!

eidsvold · 24/08/2007 21:31

they do work out cheaper - I just used old towels and t-shirts etc I had in the house already. took not time at all to make - imagine would be even quicker with an overlocker.

Will print off and ask my Mum if she can make them . I really wish I had the patience to sew, at least you get exactly what you want that way.

This is a great site and they ship to England.

I have made a couple of my own nappies, using various differnt free patterns found online. Once you get the hang of it, they are really easy to make and I am a pretty crap seamstress

I have no decided that instead of AIO's, I either need to make a variation with a soaker that I can popper in or I need to make a pocket.

Go figure though, ds prefers his babinex bamboo, rofl! It can't be beaten for softness, so who can blame him.

thanks for all this, that is a lovely picture on Eids first site. I have found this (via the Ozzie sites) which also looks like a great range. They ship to OZ don't know about UK
www.greenbeans.co.nz (even do kits for those who need more help!!)
