5 month old - Tummy Bug - What to do?

DD1 had an awful tummy bug 3 weeks ago S& mild D. Me and DH have had no sickness but awful D and now it appears 5 month DD2 has it. She's been violently sick twice over the last 3 days and is barely having 11oz of milk a day, but her main issue is horrible diarrhea. Last two poos she has destroyed her sleep suits!!! Been very grumpy which I'm assuming is tummy ache, but still sleeping through the night.

I'm weaning on HV advice so have decided to stop all food today, but should I keep trying to give milk?

Her wet nappies are starting to decrease and I'm petrified of dehydration (ended up in A&E with DD1)

Please help!!!

Yes you're supposed to continue milk feeds. You could try dioralyte alongside if you think she's dehydrated

I would maybe see a gp too as she's so young

I hate d&v bugs with a passion! It's so scary when they are that little. If you are worried about dehydration call 111 and see if you can be seen by an out of hours doctor. When my friends dd was a toddler she got dehydrated through a sickness bug and was admitted to hospital. By the next day she was fine as they put her on a drip and hydration stuff and it totally flushed the bug out. Sorry you're dealing with this.

Thanks for the advice.. Its bloody horrible. You can tell she's hungry but as soon as you put a bottle anywhere near her she screams bloody murder and turns her head away. Managed to get 4oz in her an hour ago and it's stayed down 🤞

I’d phone NHS24/ OOHS and get their advice.

Little and often would be better than large amounts at a time but yes, call 111 too

Gemm83 · 08/12/2019 14:51

Just called them now... Never seen so much vomit come out of a little body 😔

Aw the poor soul. Have they given any advice?

Went to OOH docs. Checked her over and not dehydrated just got to keep getting fluids in and don't worry about how much she's throwing up as she's keeping more down than I think she is... However whilst having a look in her mouth he also noticed that the poor little cow is cross cutting her teeth too!!! She must be so miserable 😔
