MAM self sterilising bottles help!

Hi all. FTM with a 5 day old who has been struggling to latch onto my breast. I have decided to express and feed through a bottle, and got the MAM anti-colic ones. I have just sterilised a few ready for use today, but confused with how to to store them once they come out of the microwave. The instructions say they will keep sterile for 48 hrs assembled the way they are when they go in the microwave, but online says to assemble them into the proper bottle? Anyone have any advice? Veryyyy anxious about my PFB 😁

Watching as also like to know to as contemplating switching from Tommy tippee bottles to these due to excess dribbling.

I don’t bother with the self sterilising element of them, I just cold water sterlise then instead! Much much easier and they can stay in the water until you use them.

Once you sterilised them just assemble them back into one piece and store somewhere clean. Remember, you arr sterilising bottles from MILK bacteria not from anything else so nothing wrong will happen if you touch sterilised bottle if that makes sense.

I haven’t gone over them with a swab or black light so I’m obviously not 100% but I build mine after they come out of the microwave, simply because they’d get knocked over if I just left them stacked unscrewed. And obviously I figured them getting knocked over and possibly getting feck knows what into them was worse than clean hands screwing them together without touching the inside or teat.

Midwifes said to sterilise them one at a time as you needed them but that realistically doesn’t work if you’re going out the house and don’t fancy waiting for a bottle to cool from the steam if the boss baby decides he’s having an extra night feed.

The self sterilising is so easy. Just reassemble once they're cool enough to touch.

MrsL2016 · 07/12/2019 13:51

I always reassembled once cool enough and stored them somewhere clean. Use within 24 hours.

As pp said you're actually sterilising due to bacteria that's commonly found in powder. I believe the NHS are starting to say you don't need to sterilise for breast milk, hot soapy water should do it. So I think the bottle will be fine stored however you want as long as you're not wiping the teat in dirt.

You don't need to sterilise bottles for breast milk. A hot soapy wash is enough. Likewise pump parts, they need a hot soapy wash every 24 hours and can be stored in the fridge in a zip lock bag between uses. I wish someone had told me this in my day!

Thank you everyone. I think i will reassemble as I feel like they aren’t going to wobble over and fall that way! Will definitely be going through them in 24 hours 😁
