How many children would you have if money wasn't an option?

I have a 5 month old DD and recently had a discussion with my partner about how if money wasn't an issue we'd probably want 3 or 4 children but due to the expense and the fact we have a 3 bed house we will most likely settle on 2 children, 3 at a push.

Would you want a large family if money/living capacity etc wasn't an issue? Smile

I dont think I'd want to ever stop Grin
I'm only three months into my first baby though and hes a very chilled easy boy so I'm probably being naive. But I would love at least 4 if money was no issue.

Imtootired · 06/12/2019 11:41

I have a ten year old and a brand new baby and I’m enjoying my baby so much that it makes me feel like I’d love to go through it again but with bedrooms and paying for activities when they’re older etc I’ll probably just have my two. If money was no object at all I’d probably have another one or two.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 06/12/2019 11:42

Before I had my 3rd I would have said 4. He's now 10 and i'm definitely done, have been for years!

DH would happily have at least 1 more.

Less than I have now Grin

But seriously, I wouldn't have any more than I have now. 2 of mine are autistic and it's bloody hard work. I wouldn't want any more.

Tessaraqt · 06/12/2019 11:42

Five.

I have three, and if money wasn't an issue, I'd be able to give up work, get a cleaner, outsource my ironing and everything. I'd have more time and attention than I do now trying to juggle work/childcare/household. Five would be amazing.

BigMamaFratelli · 06/12/2019 11:42

DP has 2, I have 2. I'd love one together but not really an option for plenty of reasons. But money would take care of most of those!

areyouafraidofthedark · 06/12/2019 11:43

I would of stopped at two but little miss third was a surprise!

dontalltalkatonce · 06/12/2019 11:46

Twizzlesleepsatnight · 06/12/2019 11:46

@MyDcAreMarvel

only 8? what a huge personal sacrifice you've made there.

RedGlitterBall · 06/12/2019 11:49

4, if money wasn't an issue.

AlexaShutUp · 06/12/2019 11:51

One. Even if money was infinite, my time and attention are not.

fuzzymoon · 06/12/2019 11:57

Stick with the two. Would spread myself too thin between them and really probably two is too many the way this world is turning out environmentally.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/12/2019 11:58

@Twizzlesleepsatnight do you really think it feels any different if you would like an additional child if you have 2, 4 or 8? It doesn’t. We stopped at the number of dc we could provide for financially and support emotionally. So actually in practice we wouldn’t have 10 dc if we had more money.

icecreamsundae32 · 06/12/2019 11:58

I am happy with my 3 and I don't think extra money would make me go for a 4th... it's more about time and attention. There was a time last year when I got a bit broody again and wanted another lol but then I decided I'd be stretched too thinly and run ragged!

I am lucky that I'm currently at home with my 2yo (while studying) but even juggling 3 with extra curricular activities is enough - I suppose you could pay for someone to do all that if you had money though and pay for a cleaner and ironer etc. What I'd love most of all if I was rich would be a chef to prepare lovely healthy meals. I don't particularly like cooking and deciding what to cook etc I find it such a chore and would love to just be given a nice plate of food!

Celebelly · 06/12/2019 12:09

Still one. We could afford more, we just don't want any more. Time is the currency I'm concerned with, and that's time for ourselves as well as our DC.

Answerthequestion · 06/12/2019 12:11

The 3 I have. Our decision was nothing to do with money I simply wouldn’t want more kids regardless of anything

Bippety · 06/12/2019 12:14

3, we are sticking with 1 though, just in case at somepoint our finances take a downturn. We would be able to downsize and be okay on one wage.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 06/12/2019 12:17

Four. Currently pregnant with number 3 but think we will have to stop there due to finances.

Baguetteaboutit · 06/12/2019 12:20

Three. I have three. I'm all done with being pregnant and the baby years.

Mintypea5 · 06/12/2019 12:20

4 although money isn't really the deciding factor in stopping. My last two pregnancies have been high risk and full of complications and having just had baby 3 the idea of going through labour again terrifies me.

Minai · 06/12/2019 14:30

My current 2. I always thought 3 or 4 before I had them but I feel so old and worn down by having 2 little ones I honestly don’t think I could survive any more! I absolutely love them but I am already spread so thin I couldn’t manage any more regardless of whether I had more money.

LetThemEatDrama · 06/12/2019 14:34

If I could rely on always being well off I'd have had 4 or 5 I think, we've stopped at 1 and much as I love her it does make me a bit sad as I love kids and think she'd have been better off with siblings (based on her personality, nothing wrong with being an only). I'd have a cleaner, not have to work etc and have more attention for all the children.

Caspianberg · 06/12/2019 16:51

2

I couldn't cope with a small army living in my house, regardless of money. The noise, stress and mess would finish me off for sure

Brown76 · 06/12/2019 18:47

3, if we could have lived off one salary.

managedmis · 06/12/2019 20:47

The next two would preferably be boy/girl twins
