Sleepyhead Grand... is it safe?

My DD is 8 months old and is a terrible sleeper. The only way we get some rest is if she sleeps in between me and my husband.

I’m considering buying the Sleepyhead Grand so she feels a bit more cocooned in her cot. I’m finding very mixed messages online about the safety of overnight sleeping. As it’s breathable, surely it’s safer to co-sleep with it rather than without it?

I suspect you’ll get mixed messages. Those who have them tend to say they’re great and those who don’t have them will tell you why they don’t - ie. based on safe sleeping advice etc. They are supposed to be for supervised sleeping. My little one slept in his for supervised naps during the day and it was placed in his cot at night. I found he slept well in it. It was so cosy. He’s outgrown it now but I would use again.

Lullaby trust first recommend at sleep pods. And even manufacturer states supervised use only which essentially means daytime only when u are sat there watching

Doesn't recommend (sorry! Prediction fail iPhone!)

I asked sleepy head directly about the safety of them (but the small baby version)and they told me that they are safe and they class supervised sleeping as An adult who may also be sleeping nearby but that checks on the baby occasionally, which to be fair I would do I wouldn’t sleep through even if the baby didn’t wake for a feed. I couldn’t find any actual incidents with the sleepy head specifically either which I found reassuring as it is made differently than some of the others on the market, and it is breathable. They also told me I could use my angel care monitor with it. I was recommended it by a few people who had great experiences with it. In your case with the grand version it might be worth emailing them just to see what they say. A side point, on their website it says some hospitals actually use them but I think it’s more for giving babies scans ect than over night sleeping in the ward. My midwife also said she has heard good things and wouldn’t have a problem in using one for over nights. I do think the lullaby trust is a fantastic resource but it also seems to place sleeping pods in the one category so I’m not sure the sleepy head is as high risk as say a cheaper version made with non breathable materials that might be bought on eBay for example? I guess all you can do is as much research as you can and make your decision on that! You will def get mixed replies though!

At risk of being scorned, we use a sleepyhead for DS and have done from birth.. he’s always slept really well and started sleeping through in the sleepyhead/nexttome combo around 7 or 8 weeks old and naps and sleeps really well in his own cot/sleepyhead during the day. I wouldn’t be without it.

I check on him regularly both day and night so feel ok about using it, I know a lot of people who swear by them and those that wouldn’t dare use it like that so it’s a question of what you’re comfortable with really

Also my midwife Auntie thinks they’re great and actually suggested I get one, if that helps

Not safe they are not recommend by the lullaby Trust

They are very good, my son found the transition from his co-sleep into the cot very hard. We borrowed a sleep head from my sister and he slept amazingly!!! Would recommend, definitely.

I only use our sleepyhead grande for downstairs naps or if my DD is having a rough night with teething or colds we can at least place her in something comfortable to sleep with one of us awake keeping an eye on her I don't think I would feel comfortable having her use it in the night mainly because she moves so much in her cotbed id be worried she'd get stuck etc sorry I know that's not much help to what you asked
