Stroller situation?!

Hi mums, advice needed please! Please be nice and I'm sorry if this seems silly!

Our 16 month old is starting to outgrow his buggy. He's a PFB so I never even anticipated this situation arising! Chatted to more experienced mums at a group and asked if he'd be ready for a stroller (which I generally associated with children a bit older) and they agreed that he'd be fine.

I've been looking at strollers online and all the ones I like seem to have a 33 pound weight limit. Chunky PFB is already 25 pounds. I know no-one can predict the future but is it likely that he'll put on another 8 pounds plus all before he gets too old to need a stroller (I'm guessing 2 and a half?)?! Or is that a completely unrealistic weight gain?

Do more experienced mums just ignore weight limits and then everything is fine anyway?!

Any stroller-related advice / recommendations appreciated.

Tia Smile

Try silvercross strollers. Generally speaking they have a 25kg limit. I have the reflex and love it but pretty sure the pop and others in the range have the same weight limit.

What's a pfb?

If you look at the growth charts you should be able to see roughly when he will reach 33lbs. There are buggies out there with higher weight limits - some that go up to 25kg so maybe one of them would be best. Phil and Teds for example have 25kg weight limit.

I think it would be fine tbh, I wouldn't replace in less it breaks or you feel it is unstable. The weight guide will be to protect manufacturers

Thank you everyone for your replies Smile

@Whymustyoubringinthebirds I think you're right! We'll just pick one of the ones we were looking at today, I'm sure the weight limit doesn't mean too much.

My little one went into a stroller before she was one, we were going on holiday & needed something lightweight. We never bothered to switchback after we got home! It was so much lighter to push & smaller in the boot! She’s still in it now at 2.5 & she’s a tall, quite chunky child so I can’t see much issue with weight limits! I never even checked to be honest.. I assumed it would last her until she grew out of it!

Most people just ignore the weight limits.
You’ll find that if he does get to that weight then things like the wheels will wear down quicker and also it will invalidate any guarantee on the stroller if the child is over the weight limit.
Also don’t forget any bags you hang on the handles contribute to the weight limit! Also any decent retailer will tell you not hang any thing on there anyway as it messes up the weight distribution

Thanks to you both, good to know.

I wouldn't worry about weight limits. Just get a good reliable make umbrella buggy. We have the maclaren quest and while we mainly use it for our 23 month old, our average sized four year old fits nicely in it too. It has a lifetime guarantee. Make sure whatever you get is a lightweight buggy, they are a dream to push

I have a massive 3 year old, he's been off the charts pretty much since he was born, and I've found Cosatto strollers to be great for bigger children! I've had the Supa, Giggle 2 and I'm shortly going to purchase a Woosh 2. Their weight limit is 25kg but I'm sure they would easily support more. I wish you luck!! 😊 x

I’ve got a silver cross poo and a crappy mamas and papas. The silver cross can carry a lot of weight even though it’s rated the same as the mama and papas which struggles with my small two year old.

firstimemamma · 28/11/2019 08:58

Thank you, we don't really want to spend any more than £40 (£50 at a push) so silvercross isn't an option. Thanks anyway.
